Pelonica? too poncey?

Saw a great programme about Pelonica ( Nica) Rothschild, the jazz baronness, who hung out with Thelonius Monk, Charlie Parker etc. But is it too much. Pregnancy hormones means a lack of balance at present

Pelonica is a bit much, yes, I think. But Nica's fine - why not go for that?

ingles2 · 17/05/2009 21:20

definitely too much. Nica's fine or Nina is nice

tigana · 17/05/2009 21:20

I'm with hester.

Podrick · 17/05/2009 21:21

I have never heard of this name but I really think you should go for it

KerryMaid · 17/05/2009 21:22

I think it's a really ugly name but it's not my baby.

Podrick · 17/05/2009 21:24

Aww it's not ugly, it's just unusual - I like it!

Onlyaphase · 17/05/2009 21:27

Hmm - I picked a similar-ish name for DD whilst pregnant, and whilst I still love her name we have shortened it for everyday use, and it is worth bearing in mind you will have to repeat/spell the name on a daily basis for evermore.

Having said that, I like the name you've chosen and think it is lovely

tearinghairout · 17/05/2009 21:29

Nica does sound awfully close to knickers. Not being critical, just trying to point out a potential downside.

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 17/05/2009 21:31

Dh suggests it sounds like it's a radio active element from the atomic table!

What does it mean???

I think possbily a little too waaaaay out, but what do I know....

Paolosgirl · 17/05/2009 21:33

Or a Greek resort...

It's not good. It's your hormones.

Pingpong · 18/05/2009 12:37

Nica sounds too like Nisa stores to me.
to answer your OP - Yes IMHO

Boco · 18/05/2009 12:40

It sounds like PLONKER to me.

HuwEdwards · 18/05/2009 12:42

I'm with paolo, sounds like a greek island...will prob be shortened to Pelly in Primary school.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 18/05/2009 12:46

I don't think its poncey at all. I do however think it sounds like a scabby veneral disease. Sorry.

I'm guessing from the Nica part of the post that its actually pronounced Pel-o-Nica. But when I saw it I would have pronounced it Pel-on-isa. People won't have a clue how to say it.

Pingpong · 18/05/2009 13:08

I read it to be Pel - on - ica

coffeecups · 18/05/2009 19:00

i think it's supposed to be pronounced the way Smac says. And i think it was a type of butterfly or moth - i think invented by her dad who was a keen naturalist. Thanks for the views. DH would never allow it, but i'm allowed to dream aren't I?

bigstripeytiger · 18/05/2009 22:16

It reminds me of a pelican too.

Aurora911 · 20/05/2009 13:04

It's an interesting name, not ugly, just different.

willowstar · 20/05/2009 15:09

sorry the first thing I thought of was Colonica...as in colonic, as in irrigation. But that is just me. Not my bag I'm afraid!

jumpingbeans · 20/05/2009 15:12

RachieB · 22/05/2009 16:00
