Hi
Ds was going to be Enid (or Dorothy) if he was a she!
I had sort of forgotten it, getting caught up in Jean, Hilda and Peggy, but I am starting to love it again!
What do you think?
Is it due a come back? I hope it is not going to see a surge in popularity like Esme!

My eldest son is called Eli is this too similar?

Thanks all!

Hmm, not sure.

I prefer Dorothy or Jean.

Colinfirth · 09/05/2009 22:15

Enid will never be popular.

Edith ( Edie) is slightly better than Enid!

SoupDragon · 11/05/2009 19:08

IMO Enid is a short, plump and rather dull, grey kind of name.

piscesmoon · 11/05/2009 19:12

I don't like Edith, but it is a lot better than Enid.

ScummyMummy · 11/05/2009 19:12

I think rather of a wizened old woman. Not that there is anything wrong with wizenedness or great age per se. Indeed, I hope to achieve both myself in due course but am glad I shall not have to endure the process while being referred to as "Enid".

It's such an old lady name and there are much nicer 'old biddy' names like Esther, Elsa etc.

malenagrrl · 12/05/2009 14:28

I will just say I don't like Enid. And like Jellybeans said, there are much nicer 'old biddy' names out there.

tummytickler · 12/05/2009 14:34

I am quite surprised at the negative reaction - i thought it was short and sweet, yet classic and elegant! I still love it though. I guess people in rl were being polite.
I would go for a floral mn like Violet or Primrose i think.

One of the siblings would be Eli (he is my already existing 6 year old so cant change him!). are Eli and Enid too much together? (ther are 3 other sibs too)

If you like the name, go for it, it's your child after all. But even so, I think Eli and Enid are too much together.

screamingabdab · 12/05/2009 20:50

Sorry, it's a step too far (and I like Old Lady names)

What about:

Edie
Elvie

OR

Sylvie
Lydia
Maggie
Betty - Elizabeth
Betsy - ditto

HarryB · 12/05/2009 20:52

I like it.

ElizabethL · 03/06/2009 19:19

My husband and I like the name Enid and may name our daughter that.
We love it's meaning (life or soul) and sound. I think it's very much of an individual name and has a nice history with the character in Arthurian romance Geraint and Enid and de Troyes' Eric et Enide.

ElizabethL · 03/06/2009 19:34

p.s.

I don't at all associate it as an old biddy name.

mulranno · 03/06/2009 19:36

Go for it...

goomum · 03/06/2009 19:56

Eli and Enid is a bit two peas in a pod. I'd go for something with different syllable length if you really want E name. Erica?

gibba8 · 04/06/2009 20:07

I do not usually like old biddy names but I really like Enid.

Hulababy · 04/06/2009 20:38

I don't like Enid. much prefer Edith.

BottySpottom · 04/06/2009 20:39

Sorry, don't like at all. Nor Edith, Jean or Dorothy.

janeite · 04/06/2009 20:40

Eli and Enid sound far too similar imho. I'm not fond of alliterative sibling names. Plenty of lovely 'old biddy' names that don't begin with 'E' - I like Violet.
