Ever since we found out I was having a boy we decided on the name Zachary. Now, with only 3 weeks to go I am having major doubts!
Is it too common? Too 'cool'?? Will it still suit him as a grown-up?
With this being my first baby, I have no idea whether it's a popular name or not!
Would be interested in hearing people's opinions on this as a name choice...
thanks

Great choice. I know 1 Zachary (a man) but about 4 Zac's, kids. Nowhere near as common as Jack etc.

I love it, it was on my names list.

pinkbaby · 05/05/2009 15:32

It's a fab name. Zachary for birth certificate, Zac/Zach for nn. Go for it!

wotulookinat · 05/05/2009 15:39

Fab name. Was always my number 1 name until I taught a nasty kid called it.

Really interesting to see your thread as I'm booked for c-section in 6 days and going through same thought processes as you! Have loved Zachary throughout pregnancy, think its a great name and love Zak too. Personally, I think its fine for a man too.

I only know one other but its a friends DS who we see every day at school so I'm not sure whether to go with it or not? I think it's growing in popularity, but still not that common.

Also toyed with Isaac, shortened to Zac but feel it's probably getting a bit popular too?

Not sure if Ive helped at all, just re-read my post and think I'm confusing myself further too!!

My best friend had a baby 6 months ago and she called her DS Zakari, Zak for short.

I think I'd probably go for the more trad way of spelling it but either way it's a nice name.

Ohhhh I want this name now!!
(obviously not for me personally as I am female and have had my name for 25 years so there would be no point in changing it now...)

ohdearwhatamess · 05/05/2009 19:10

Zack is very popular round these parts. I know 5 of preschool age.

PrettyCandles · 05/05/2009 19:13

I like Zachary.

It's one of those names that is not terribly common, but keeps popping up - a classic, I think.

Zac is quite a cool nickname for a man.

TheLadyEvenstar · 05/05/2009 19:47

Zachary is a wonderful name and has a lovely meaning to....

Remembered by God.

But maybe I am biased

I know its almost a year later but did you go with Zachary? I was exactly the same as you in the last few weeks having decided on Zachary (and Isabel for a girl) quite early on. I was worried it was a bit too quirky and people might think we were trying to be trendy (despite it being an old name). We had Matthew in reserve - maybe a bit more traditional - but plumped for Zachary in the end and are so glad we did now. We shorten it to Zach which I prefer to Zac/ Zak. His 3 year old cousin calls him Zachary Zoom!
