Alice or Alicia?

OK so I loved the name Alicia first time around but I seriously dislike the pronunciation 'aleeesha' and foresaw a lifetime of correcting everyone-- also it seemed to potentially be a little, erm, ghetto chav?

So, this time I am favouring Alice, possibly, but dp disagrees and says Alicia is much prettier. I speak Spanish and will be spending quite a bit of time in spanish speaking countries (post swine flu!) but I still think Alice is more classic.

Hmm I'm not sure... help!?

Alice. Less faddy and classier.

tummytickler · 04/05/2009 09:59

Alice is so much more classic. It is beautiful.
Alicia is soooo faddy, i think and will sound really dated in 20 years time whereas Alice will not.
I love Alice but can not use it as it sounds too similar to dd's name - you can use it for mr

Alicia always reminds me of that naughty girl in Malory Towers.....

Alice is prettier IMO

nappyaddict · 04/05/2009 10:14

Prefer:

Alease
Alisa (a-lee-sa)
Alessa
Alessia

Podrick · 04/05/2009 10:24

Spelling it Alyssia would stop folk calling her Alesha

dizzydixies · 04/05/2009 10:50

Alice, by a country mile.

sleepyhead3 · 04/05/2009 12:16

Definitely Alice! Beautiful and classic- will never date and not fussy like Alicia.

SnortyBartFast · 04/05/2009 12:19

another malory towers here, do not like alicia

knockedgymnast · 04/05/2009 21:11

My daughter's name is Alecia, pronounced A-LEE-SEE-A. However, the only people that call her that is me. Everyone else calls her ALEESHA.

So wish I'd called her Alice

Alice! Elegant and one of those names which are difficult to shorten...

piscesmoon · 04/05/2009 21:36

Alice

LissyGlitter · 04/05/2009 22:12

I'm called Alicia, and I quite like it. I think I have only ever met two people with the same name. My family all call me Alice though, and most of my friends call me Lissy, as a) I got fed up of people mispronouncing it and b) I have a lisp, and it is really embarrasing when people repeat my name back to me as Alithia, especially as that's what the bullies at school used to call me

It really annoys me when people spell my name wrong as well, it's not hard! I know some people give their kids odd spellings, but they do for names like amy and jane as well, yet they get spelt right!

Alice is a fabulous name! Sounds lovely and girly when she is little then has real gravitas for when she becomes PM!

BigusBumus · 05/05/2009 13:59

Alice is far far classier. Do not hesitate!

sleeplessinstretford · 05/05/2009 14:23

Always Alice, it's a lovely name.
