... a little boy called Igor.

Even for Surrey this is a little bit 'out there'

Sure it wasn't Igor Atowel?

fizzpops · 01/05/2009 21:15

Didn't hear the surname

Strangely though I think it is growing on me...

fruitshootsandheaves · 01/05/2009 21:18

In the delivery ward my sister was in, Mr and Mrs Pipe proudly announced the name of their new son Dwayne.

Chinese takeaway owner's new baby: Wa Chu E. Ting

Welsh holiday camp owner's baby: Cara van Stukk

I know a local Iago (age 3). I think that beats Igor anyday.
Lovely lad, though.
(disclaimer: I don't mind either name, but they are definitely statements in themselves, don't you think?).
Mind, I feel the same way about Theo and a lot of other popular choices on MN .

surrofab · 02/05/2009 09:34

ohdearwhatamess · 02/05/2009 09:38

There's a 5yo Iago living a few doors along from me.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 02/05/2009 09:46

I'm always very careful about judging foreign names since I met a little boy called Jovan, and assumed that it was after the awful 80s perfume..and then found out his parents are Croatian!!

kidowner · 02/05/2009 11:13

I worked in Hong Kong and my student had a beautiful name: Tweety Ip.(True by the way!)

fizzpops · 02/05/2009 14:45

I did consider that his parents might be of foreign extraction but to say, 'Gosh this is a bit odd - must be foreign!' seemed a bit insulting.

As I said it is growing on me, quite like Iago too! Both in the sense that I wouldn't use it myself but I would quite like it if I met someone with that name.

Out there, but pretty cool I think

serenity · 02/05/2009 15:14

There's a Higor (pronounced Igor) in DS1's class. He's Portuguese iirc.

EyeballsplayswithCake · 02/05/2009 15:15

But Iago was a complete bastard. Why would you want to name your little boy after him?

Nighbynight · 02/05/2009 15:33

Igor is a lovely name - am surprised that you think it's unusual.

fizzpops · 02/05/2009 20:00

I wouldn't but the name sounds great - sort of like a variation of Inigo.

Nighbynight - do you know a lot of Igors? He is the first I have come across (outside of horror films)

Very common Russian name. My cousin is an Igor (although granted he was born and raised in Moscow by 100% Russian parents).

pointydog · 02/05/2009 21:31

It may well be Russian and cool but in Britain it tends to be the idiot sidekick of a mad scientist.
