Ds has just started pre-school and there are some unusual names there, some I love and some not so keen on, but its interesting to see new names I hadnt heard of/considered before!
I live in a pretty conservative area.

Some are

Harmarnie (girl)
Indiana (girl)
Eden (boy)

What unusual ones have you got?

Magic (boy)
Harris (girl)

SamsMama · 03/05/2009 06:48

Yeah, Brayden is very common here in the US, along with Jayden, Kaiden, Ayden, Xhaden...UUUGHHH! (I already ranted about this in a different thread though so I will hush.) I also have known more than one Neveah. A little girl at the school I work with is called Fari. Also have known 3 Xanders. 2 were short for Alexander, one was just Xander. I know of a little boy named Rowdy- hideous name for a child in my opinion. I also had a boy in the preschool class I taught named Aspen Jade.

Littlefish · 03/05/2009 07:46

Talon (boy)
Prince (boy)

Today we had a memorial service at school and the head warned the boys not to laugh at the names of the soldiers as it was a long time ago and the names may seem silly.

Compared to some of the names they will have come across I'm sure the odd Rodney or Stanley isn't going to send them into convulsive laughter.

Rialentless · 03/05/2009 08:06

Rogan (boy) can only hope his middle name isn't Josh.

I know a boy called Blake, and I think there are a couple of Kian/Cian.
I also know someone called Delta{girl}, but not school-age.

DS2s name is on this thread twice.

Rialentless · 03/05/2009 08:08

DS1 knows an Ozzy

buzzybee · 03/05/2009 09:12

Funny how in diff countries some names seem very unusual. I suspect Delta is quite common in Australia for example courtesy of Deltra Goodren (singer). Names like Jayden and Brayden also very common down under. Also Courtney and Paige.

magentadreamer · 03/05/2009 09:27

Neveah might not be heaven spelt backwards but an anglicisation of the Irish name Niamh.

missmama · 03/05/2009 09:40

Bingo
Twice

2 of my sons names on here!
Just waiting for the third for a full house
He usually turns up at some point, apparently there are 3 of them in England.

dinkymum · 03/05/2009 09:51

There are a lot where my daughter goes including Benedicht for a girl?

purpleduck · 03/05/2009 10:00

Grouchyoscar and ladypink...do you guys live in the same place...? I know a child of that name too...Hampshire??

Disenchanted3 · 03/05/2009 10:06

Abba and Basa (brothers)

Jaypickle · 03/05/2009 11:51

Cian/Kian is a very common Irish name, its about as odd as James would be in England.

Sorrento · 03/05/2009 12:40

My daughters name is on here twice too

bigbaubles · 03/05/2009 13:29

Justice
Ocean
Gaia
Sue-Key
Woody
J'adore
Shakira
Shannell

BikeRunSki · 04/05/2009 22:48

Gaia is a very old name! I know one old lady, one 20ish year old and one 4 year old. It means "mother earth"

Tiggy (girl, not short for anything)
Lenny (girl, not short for anything)
Around here any boy's name is unusual if it is not Finlay!

gladders · 05/05/2009 11:48

persephone
coco
Big (boy - its a nckname - his real name is merlin...)
ocean

Hulababy · 05/05/2009 11:52

In DD's class the names are all pretty traditional, normal names. Nothing really unusual at all. Nearest to different is Liberty, but even that is not particularly unusual.

In the class I work in (Y1) there are lots of more unusual names. Many are not British names so can't comment on them as don't know if common or not for them. Others that are a bit more unusual include Nia, Stanley, Hugo, Joab...not overtly unusual really though.

Gorionine · 05/05/2009 11:54

I am a bit desapointed, none of my Dcs name are on the list!

RoverTheCrotchSniffer · 05/05/2009 12:01

OK, I've namechanged (to an old name I used once on a funny dog thread btw ) to tell you these names:

a boy in DS' class called DANTE

and his new brother is called... KAISER

love it!

Hulababy · 05/05/2009 12:02

grouchyoscar - one of my cousins is also called Keelan. Have another cousin called Caelan

mrsrawlinson · 05/05/2009 12:04

There was a kid in my twins' nursery class called Summer-Meadow. Always made me think of fabric softener...

slug · 05/05/2009 12:07

In DD's nursery:
Beyonce
Tiana
Ghengis
Shania
Babatunde (I know, it's a fairly common African name)
Sweta (girl - Nepalese)

In her Primary school:
Ettie
Milie
Grace etc There's definitely a class difference there

4andnotout · 05/05/2009 12:08

Tigga
Merlin

bruffin · 05/05/2009 12:59

We have a few girls from african countries so some unusual names

Ewoofah (not sure of the spelling)
Twins Adoni and Armani
Nakira
Shanice
Brunelle
Media
Shania

and a turkish boy called Tolga

There was also a girl called Locket but I am not sure if that was her nickname or not.

I think Paige is becomming a bit more popular as my cousin has just called her baby Paige, although there is another connection to the name.

Also have a cousin called Thea.

DS has a friend called Casper who has a brother Hector.
