NN/whole name...

Ok, I have 2 boys already, a Jacob and a Jonah, and am having another, I think it will be another boy.

So the name at the top of my list is Finn, but OH insists that is a nickname, and he must have a whole name, so he wants to call him Fintan, which I don't love (I might go for Finlay, but he hates it)

Would you go for the full name you're not sure about, and always just call him the shortened version, or would you just think of another name?
Opinions please.

Finn is NOT a nickname but a very old name in its own right. It means 'fair'as in colouring not justice. My dgs is Finn and they researched ithoroughly.

depends on surname sometimes sounds better but why give him a name noone uses?(as someone who is only known by nn it seems silly)

Finbar?

Finn is definitely not a nickname.

I know a little boy called Finn it is not a nickname (I asked the mum).

just call him the shortened version. I don't get giving a long version that you don't like/won't use! Most names have varied over time anyway and become names in their own right after a while eg Jack.
