Back to the Future! (Dr. Emmett Brown)

That's not to say I don;t like it though - I think it's pretty cool.

Leannabanana · 23/04/2009 07:25

we had this on our list after emmet fox one of my favourite theologian writers but one of the vampires in Twilight was called emmet and i just felt that people would assume he was named because of that and that didn't appeal...especially as there is going to be at least another two films in the coming years....it also killed off Rosalie for us....

MrsMcCluskey · 23/04/2009 07:30

I like it, a bit quirky

Nekabu · 23/04/2009 08:04

An emmet is a slightly derogatory term for a tourist in Cornwall, so it'll be best if you don't live near the West Country ...

piscesmoon · 23/04/2009 08:14

I was going to say-don't take him to Cornwall if you do!!

missmiss · 23/04/2009 08:32

I like it.

pandavark · 23/04/2009 11:11

its popular over here (in ireland), i believe its generally perceived as a posh, slightly poncey name

WildSeahorses · 23/04/2009 17:53

If you like it, use it.
I wouldn't worry about the Twilight connection - I think that's far more likely to cause a rapid rise in the number of little Edwards/Isabellas than the number of Emmetts, because he's not one of the main characters.

Fimbo · 23/04/2009 17:54

DD has one in her class, I quite like it.

TotalFeckinEejit · 23/04/2009 17:57

Ds of close friend is called Emmett and I really like it.

Pepa · 23/04/2009 17:59

Its my nephews name - and he's an lovely easy-going baby...don't know if its due to the name but its worth a chance!!!

btw I love it!

Fimbo · 23/04/2009 18:01

The one in dd's class is 11 btw

ScorpiowithabigS · 23/04/2009 18:03

I live in west cornwall, so no!

piscesmoon · 23/04/2009 18:45

I should read this first
meaning in Cornwall
It is like calling him Grockle.

CuppaTeaJanice · 23/04/2009 20:02

Well it made me think of Hyacinth Bucket's wimpy neighbour in 'Keeping up Appearances'. Elizabeth's brother.

Gillyan · 23/04/2009 21:01

Me too mrswoolf!

seeker · 23/04/2009 23:45

It's a West Country term for an ant.

It's also a very Protestant name in Ireland. (I think - could be wrong)

Also the name of Hyacinth Bouquet's next door neighbour.

betsyboo · 24/04/2009 11:06

I agree with the West Country thing, it's the cornish word for ant and used alot down here. I can imagine that someone on the beach shouting for Emmet may get a few raised eyebrows at the least.

JemL · 24/04/2009 14:44

Yes - for the Back to the Future connection alone!

singersgirl · 24/04/2009 20:20

Doesn't 'emmett' meant 'ant'?

It's also the beginning of 'emetic' and 'emetophobia'.
