These are the only names dp and I like. What do you think?

Not Dorothy. I have known 3 and they all hated it.

blowninonabreeze · 22/04/2009 19:37

See I was going to say that I loved Dorothy

blowninonabreeze · 22/04/2009 19:38

Not keen on the others though

tummytickler · 22/04/2009 19:44

I love all three - we wanted Dorothy for ds if a girl and love Gloria too. Ds has a little friend age 3 called Gloria and she is adorable and i have really come to love the name Gloria now.
I also like Henrietta but i think that is more for the nn's you can get from it (Netta, Etta, Hetty,).
Dottie is my favourite nn for Dorothy. We have decided that we probably wouldnt use it if dc5 is a girl, but i still adore it and might use it as a mn.

In order of preference i like

Gloria
Dorothy
Henrietta

pointydog · 22/04/2009 19:45

not keen on any

annasmami · 22/04/2009 20:35

I love all three, but prefer Henrietta.

girlandboy · 22/04/2009 20:38

My middle name is Dorothy.

My mum's name is Dorothy. Dad calls her Dot, which she hates. But she occasionally gets called Dolly which she's ok about.

In order of preference I'd go for:

Henrietta
Dorothy
Gloria

pranma · 22/04/2009 21:25

I hate Gloria but love both the other two
Dorothy is so very sweet and old fashioned and Henrietta is both sophisticated and pretty

RachieB · 22/04/2009 21:29

Henrietta is best of a bad bunch lol

prefer Hetty or Harri(et)

Cies · 22/04/2009 21:33

I agree with RachieB - Henrietta is ok, but I much prefer Harriet. Love the nn Etta, Netta, Hetty.

Really don't like Gloria - it conjures up images of a 50yo dyed blonde working in a diner.

And Dorothy will always be from the Wizard of Oz for me. Sorry.

Misskittykat · 22/04/2009 21:55

Henrietta but pref Harriet!

snice · 22/04/2009 21:57

Could you have Dorothea instead? Otherwise like Henrietta the best.

brimfull · 22/04/2009 22:02

Gloria !! noooo

Glory is much nicer..is it a name?

MrsHappy · 22/04/2009 22:02

I think they are all a bit matronly (I imagine them all as 60-something women with a chest like the front of a ship). Maybe it is because they are the names of my mum's friends (esp Gloria) and are not in that granny-chic category yet.

Anyway, of the three I like Henrietta the best.

MarchNowFebMum · 22/04/2009 22:03

all sound too old-ish for little girl

purpleduck · 22/04/2009 22:21

No
No
No

frazzledoldbag · 22/04/2009 23:50

oh please not Dorothy....it's such an old lady name and not in a good way. [memories of evil auntie dorothy]
Gloria is ok
Henrietta is much the nicest. Pretty and unusual. Has my vote anyway!

blinks · 22/04/2009 23:53

NO, JUST NO.

gibba8 · 23/04/2009 19:58

I can not believe that so many of you like the name Henrietta-try living with it like I have for the past 40 years!
Sorry but I really dislike it and especially since I had a long surname starting with the letter H also.
My aunt and gran also had the same name and nn were rita and hetty(slightly better!)
Think Harriet is nice though.

Love Gloria. It was my grandma's name. I have been hoping it comes back in fashion or something.

WinkyWinkola · 24/04/2009 07:36

Don't like any of them, I'm afraid.

Gloria makes me think of an ageing show girl.

Dorothy makes me think of a matron whose bosom is so big, it's like one solid mountain on her starched aproned chest.

Henrietta makes me think of a limp wristed, washed out little girl who bleats whenever a blue bottle goes near her.

VeryAnnieMary · 24/04/2009 09:10

Darwin's daughter Henrietta was known as Etty which I think is sweet.

branflake81 · 24/04/2009 09:37

They are all, quite frankly, hideous.
