Goddaugther's name is Sophie-Anne. Could I get away with naming my baby Sophia?

too close I fear unless you don't see each other often.

GetOrfMoiLand · 20/04/2009 17:05

Oh no call her Sophia - it's my dd's name (you have excellent taste in baby names

jellybeans · 20/04/2009 18:10

I think that is fine, not the same name after all.

Leannabanana · 20/04/2009 18:52

too close for me.

littlesilversnowbeetle · 20/04/2009 18:53

I wouldn't

RachieB · 20/04/2009 19:07

i wouldnt

hulabula · 20/04/2009 21:03

I think they are too similar - I wouldn't.

stclair · 20/04/2009 21:10

You're right, I think I'm doomed with that one

I would but would spell it Sofia just to put a little extra distance there!

frazzledoldbag · 21/04/2009 15:03

Sofia is a good idea. How often do you see your god-daughter? Does she live nearby? If not I wouldn't worry about it too much.

stclair · 21/04/2009 19:23

oh, I do see her quite often. I think I had better steer clear of that one . . . Thinking cap on for another name!

zanz1bar · 21/04/2009 20:45

oh fgs its a different name, just cos it shares some vowels.
what next, can't use anything starting with an s.

pandavark · 28/04/2009 12:41

bad idea

BonsoirAnna · 28/04/2009 12:42

A bit close. Sophie/Sophia are lovely names.

Overmydeadbody · 28/04/2009 12:47

Even if you wanted to name your DD Sophie Anne I'd say that would be fine.

sockmonster · 28/04/2009 15:40

Go for it she will have it for life and deserves a name that you really want her to have. Go for Sophia or Sofía I say!
Say you are naming her after your god daughter?

sophieandbelly · 30/04/2009 18:38

u should call ur daughter whatever u love!
my daughter is evie grace and my best friend has just had a little girl and she was going to call her eveline (eve or evie for short) and altho i was bit shocked wen she said i just took it as a compliment,

she called her maeve eveline in the end.

but i wouldnt have minded xx go for it

LouMacca · 01/05/2009 13:50

I wouldn't. My goddaughter is called Lucy which is a name I would have loved for my own DD but my friend got pregnant before me.

I now have a Sophie which I know my friend liked for a name but they chose Emily for their 2nd DD as we are just too close and see each other often.

There are lots of lovely names to choose from but its your decision.

nappyaddict · 02/05/2009 19:14

stclair - why don't you just ask your friend if she would mind you using Sofia? If not go for it.

stclair · 05/05/2009 17:52

I've decided I really shouldn't go for Sophia/fia. I see my friend a lot and have since developed a passion for names ending in 'ia' or 'a' generally! ie Claudia . . . Olivia . . . Gabriella . . . etc. They are also lovely names aren't they. Aren't they?

stclair - I definitely think you've made the right decision. Claudia, Olivia, Gabriella are lovely names for a girl. There are lots of very pretty ia/a ending names for girls. Good luck!
