reminds me of that fabulous book by AS Byatt. With the dead poets. Was it Possession?

It's a good'un.

Maiakins · 20/04/2009 12:20

Absolutely love it! (probably helped by having a wonderful friend called Christabel)

Niecie · 20/04/2009 12:21

Gorgeous and I like the shortened Christie too.

SlackBladder · 20/04/2009 12:24

Mmm, I think it's slightly too pretty-pretty but I love Christy or Chrissy as a nn. I'd go for Christina personally but Christabel definitely not offensive

kitkatqueen · 21/04/2009 22:33

I love it, I have a relative called it and she hates it, but only because at her posh school no-one was allowed to shorten it prior to that she was chris, christa, bell, bella etc and loved it. Now she is known by her middle name. Think I need to have just one more daughter...

'The night is chill, the cloud is gray:
'T is a month before the month of May,
And the Spring comes slowly up this way.
The lovely lady, Christabel,
Whom her father loves so well,
What makes her in the wood so late,
A furlong from the castle gate?
She had dreams all yesternight
Of her own betrothed knight;
And she in the midnight wood will pray
For the weal of her lover that's far away.

She stole along, she nothing spoke,
The sighs she heaved were soft and low,
And naught was green upon the oak,
But moss and rarest mistletoe:
She kneels beneath the huge oak tree,
And in silence prayeth she.'

Not Coleridge's best poem but a good name!

AppleHEAD · 21/04/2009 23:00

I have a two year old called Christabel - we call her Christa. I love it I think it really suits her. There was also Christabel Pankhurst and a famous spy called Christabel.

clairebear88 · 22/04/2009 13:48

Hi

Im not sure about Christabel but all through my teenage years I swore if I had a dd I would call her Christy after a book I had read. V.Pretty i think

ilovemydogandMrObama · 22/04/2009 13:49

Love love it

CuppaTeaJanice · 22/04/2009 13:56

It's a bit princessy, like Tinkerbell. I should imagine it might be quite embarrassing for an adult, particularly if she had a high powered job.

I like Christy, Chrissie, Christina etc though.

donnie · 22/04/2009 13:57

love it, plus it flies the flag for suffragettes, woo hoo!!

numal · 22/04/2009 17:00

Christabel is such a beautiful name.

MsMargotBeauregarde · 22/04/2009 18:26

Very feminine but not at all weak or frilly. Very unusual but still sort of conservative. I really like it. Reminds me of the Pankhurts, so I just get a good feeling from the name. I'd expect her to be from a privileged family though! Have to be honest.

MsMargotBeauregarde · 22/04/2009 18:27

I prefer Christa to Christy. JMO

lunamoon2 · 23/04/2009 23:14

I like it. As an adult she could choose Chris, if she wanted.

JemL · 24/04/2009 14:49

It reminds me of the Adrian Mole books, it's one of the names his mum suggests for his sister!

MsMargotBeauregarde · 24/04/2009 15:41

HOW do you remember that?! Are you in fact Sue Townsend?!?

LaDiDaDi · 24/04/2009 19:11

A bit too girly for me, Christa much nicer and stronger imo.

HolidaysQueen · 24/04/2009 19:17

I like it because of Christabel Pankhurst - it sounds really girlie, and then you think, ooh actually it's really rather cool to be named after a suffragette! I actually preferred Sylvia Pankhurst but probably wouldn't name a DD that whereas I might consider Christabel!

Lotster · 24/04/2009 19:43

Ooh, not heard this since I was about 9! My mum used to fake letters from the tooth fairy and put them under my pillow, and sign them Christabel! So it has fairy connotations for me, but that's not a bad thing really I suppose.
