It's a bit......abrupt.

drosophila · 18/04/2009 23:37

Think it is short for Jedediah.

Wasn't that a character on the Beverly Hillbillies? Sounds like an American hick name to me, but maybe it works over here.

LetThemEatCake · 18/04/2009 23:43

I like jedediah (we know one) and Jed is a nice abbrev.

GoodbyeClement · 18/04/2009 23:44

we wanted it, very much, for ds but couldn't go for the jedadiah thing (bit too religious sounding for me) and felt he should have a full name as it sounds like a nickname.

MrsMerryHenry · 18/04/2009 23:46

Hate it. I know a Jed, but that's nothing to do with why I hate the name.

Also the Duggars have a Jedediah. Not that that changes anything!

screamingabdab · 18/04/2009 23:46

I really like it - really manly and handsome, yet cute for a little boy

screamingabdab · 18/04/2009 23:47

It's also the President in The West Wing (Jed Bartlett)

Ronaldinhio · 18/04/2009 23:48

Short for Josiah also

Love it

drosophila · 18/04/2009 23:48

Who are the Duggars?

Tinker · 18/04/2009 23:49

Could Ged be an alternative - short for Gerard/Gerald?

I'd be worried I'd hear Jeb and then think Bush

Leannabanana · 18/04/2009 23:50

my nephew is Jed - short for Josiah....its gorgeous and very strong sounding in my opinion....love it.

LetThemEatCake · 18/04/2009 23:50

That's interesting, you saying that Clement... we're thinking Zephaniah but dh thinks it is "too Jewish" (although why this is a problem when our names are as biblical as it gets is beyond me) so he thinks maybe just Zeph. But I think it's too nicknamish and that it's one think to be called Zeph in everyday life but another to have it on your birth certificate

hmmm.

MrsMerryHenry · 18/04/2009 23:50

Jonathan Porrit would be having kittens

LaDiDaDi · 18/04/2009 23:51

I like Jed but I find Jedidiah a bit too full on for my tastes.

GoodbyeClement · 18/04/2009 23:53

LetThem, what about zepphyr as the long name? too hippy? i love it.

Tinker · 18/04/2009 23:54

Wow at their house though

LetThemEatCake · 18/04/2009 23:55

I LOVE Zephyr. We are considering it. Zephyrus is too much but Zephyr is grand.

Not too hippy, my other 2 kids have 'unusual' albeit not hippy names. Phoenix and Cassian. I think the 3 would go well together.

Did you mean to spell it with a double P? have you seen it like that elsewhere?

GoodbyeClement · 18/04/2009 23:56

no - just bad guess!

MrsMerryHenry · 19/04/2009 00:02

yeah, tinker - they built it themselves. Literally. All the children joined in. Amazing.

puffling · 19/04/2009 00:04

Sounds like the name of the son of a Devon based eco-warrior.

jellybeans · 19/04/2009 22:53

I'm not keen on it.
