Too like Aislinn imo, but I know you mean the Lion.

ellingwoman · 08/04/2009 16:32

No - there are better ones than that.

Rinian
Tumnus
Eustace
Puddleglum

Actually I quite like Rinian

pinkmagic1 · 08/04/2009 16:34

Love it actually, but maybe hard to get away with unless your Turkish.

Nancy66 · 08/04/2009 17:06

No, don't like it.

mrsgboring · 08/04/2009 17:17

If you are Turkish, have Turkish heritage, or at least know a lot about Turkish culture and have some personal connection, great. It is a nice name.

If not, no. Really dislike the practice of latching onto an otherwise barely understood language/culture in order to find an unusual name. Slebtastic and a bit dim.

VernalEquinoxMitchyInge · 08/04/2009 17:20

it's fab, miles better than Leo

LOADS of lion names

Frillysocks · 08/04/2009 17:34

Sounds pretentious IMO

solidgoldshaggingbunnies · 10/04/2009 00:14

Re the religious aspect: loads of Spanish-speakers think (or at least did up until fairly recently) that Jesus is a perfectly acceptable name.

BunnyLebowski · 10/04/2009 10:29

Terrible....hate the CS Lewis connection and there's a dreadful Irish dad rock band called Aslan.

It has a very pretentious sound....can imagine sniggering if I heard someone calling it out in public

noonki · 10/04/2009 10:34

are there lots of Turkish people called Lion?

I two jesus's.

fulltimeworkingmum · 10/04/2009 10:35

If you want your child to endure a lifetime of ridicule then go ahead. What seems cute for a newborn or toddler often doesn't translate to a spotty teenager who will later become a parent himself and have to explain to HIS children why he's got such a weird name.

solidgoldshaggingbunnies · 10/04/2009 11:47

I am currently trying to persuade my mates not to call their new DS Bilbo (as in Lord of the Ringpiece) FFS! The poor kid will be Dildo to every bully around for the rest of his life...

sazzerbear · 10/04/2009 11:48

Well, I know a baby Anakin (yep, as in Star Wars!)

LaDiDaDi · 10/04/2009 11:50

Not keen.

dustbuster · 10/04/2009 11:51

Bilbo

nappyaddict · 15/04/2009 14:47

reminds me of Alsation

everGreensleeves · 15/04/2009 14:49

I know a boy called Bilbo, I don't think he gets picked on

Yeni · 15/04/2009 15:40

Are you Turkish?

TheFallenMadonna · 15/04/2009 15:43

How old is he Greensleeves?

RE Aslan - everyone will assume you are a mad CS Lewis fan. And if you are, then fair enough. The turkish for lion thing will not be obvious.

DivamakesKimchi · 15/04/2009 15:45

Arslan you mean? means lion in many languages I like it

cory · 15/04/2009 16:55

I have known Turkish lions, certainly. But you'd probably have to be prepared to talk a lot about your Eastern heritage. Like my Swedish bear. Though he's probably quite happy for people to think that I am an Abba fan . And I thought it would be safe- everybody had forgotten about the tennis player and Mamma Mia had not yet come upon us.

Shila82 · 30/04/2009 12:02

Aslan is popular also in arabic, caucasia, iran for the boy baby names

Greensleeves · 30/04/2009 12:02
