Really struggling to find a decent girl's name that meets my strict criteria - please help me out

I have a decent baby name book but I'm becoming increasingly frustrated every time I look in it.

I would like a name that is classic, pretty, stylish not in the top 100 names list and doesn't end in a 'ee' sound (because it won't go with our surname) I tend to like names with Latin origin.

The name I was going to choose is frustratingly also the name of a bloody car but I wanted that particular spelling because of the historical origin. However, I quickly reconciled myself to the fact that the world isn't going to change over night, nor are Renault going to stop making this car. So I thought I would choose a different spelling until I realised this is also the name of Pinocchio's cat! So that just about puts the lid on it

All the other names I like seem to be the name of a child at dd's school (does this matter?), or someone who has died in tragic circumstances.

Any ideas? I have considered

Jemima
Beatrice
Anna (but in top 100)

Also like Isabella but waaaaaay too popular. TIA

Carlotta?
Carolina?

MamaG · 04/04/2009 22:51

Alice.

itchyandscratchy · 04/04/2009 22:51

Beatrice is very pretty; I also like Bea

Isabella is nice but you're right. Dd2 has about 5 friends called Issy, Izzy, Isabelle, Isabella, etc

KingRoloEgg · 04/04/2009 22:53

Beatrice is becomming more popular too.

Tortoise · 04/04/2009 22:54

Personally haven't heard of the car with that name so it wouldn't bother me, plus my DD1's name is Xantia which is a citroen!
She thinks it is fab when she sees her name on the back of a car!

ItsMargotBeauregarde · 04/04/2009 22:55

Juliet
Annabel
Beatrix - just prefer it to Beatrice
Jemima nice too.

I like names that don't end in 'a' for some reason but Claudia and Lydia are lovely.
I love Christabel. Gorgeous, feminine but strong. NObody's doormat a Christabel.

stickylittlefingers · 04/04/2009 22:56

I'm named after my great grandmother who died in childbirth, so I can vouch for the tragic circumstances thing being get - overable.

In case you were avoiding Sylvia for that reason. Because I think it's a lovely name.

Claire2009 · 04/04/2009 22:58

DD is called Morgane.

ItsMargotBeauregarde · 04/04/2009 23:00

ps what about Annie instead of Anna. More unusual I think. ALthough I am guessing, don't know that.

lottiebunny · 04/04/2009 23:02

I really like the name Cleo, don't give up on it! How many people are going to think of Pinocchio's cat? Most people will think of Cleopatra

Wiki gives an alternate spelling of Kleio if you didn't want to use Clio.

MANATEEequineOHARA · 04/04/2009 23:10

Annie is less usual. My dd is called Annie, and I don't know many others

I really like Beatrice too.

FaintlyMacabre · 04/04/2009 23:16

Rosalind? (what DS would have been, if he was a DD)

controlfreakythecontrolfreak · 04/04/2009 23:20

dido

FaintlyMacabre · 04/04/2009 23:22

Ooh, Portia is lovely. There's definitely a Shakespearean theme on this thread

EachPeachPearMum · 04/04/2009 23:27

Beatrix
Margot
Astrid
Greta
Aurelia

electra · 04/04/2009 23:27

thumbbunny · 04/04/2009 23:42

PS - the cat was called Figaro, it was the goldfish who was Cleo.

gonaenodaethat · 04/04/2009 23:44

Cleo is the fish.

The cat is called Figaro.

Does that make a difference?

It's a lovely name btw.

gonaenodaethat · 04/04/2009 23:44

I hate it when that happens.

lottiebunny · 04/04/2009 23:55

They definitely won't think of the cat then

Poppity · 05/04/2009 00:11

Sophia always sounds so latin to me.
Love Cleo too though.

oysterpots · 05/04/2009 00:13

Vita?

Sylvie?
