Dorothy and Penelope

What do you think of Dorothy and Penelope?
I love Dorothy but i am a bit worried that it might have a huge revival and there will be 4 in the class! Same Penelope.
So could they be the next big thing? I like to try and give dcs names that wont date too much (ds have biblical for example), so would hate them to become very 'of the moment'.
Still loving Jean though

Penelope's nice. I hate the other 2. sorry, you did ask.

tummytickler · 04/04/2009 21:37

Hate away . There is no point in asking if everyone says 'oh yes call her Pickallili - 'tis wonderful' .

yes, then you can use Thea for short.....

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 04/04/2009 21:38

Penelope's nice though. Charlotte, Hannah, Sophia are all nice too.

Marthasmama · 04/04/2009 21:38

LOVE the name Dorothy. If it wasn't my mum's name dd might have been a Dorothy.

pollywobbledoodle · 04/04/2009 21:39

both sound like names for clarks sandals, sorry

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 04/04/2009 21:39

She'd get picked on at school for Dorothy. They will cotton her!

tummytickler · 04/04/2009 21:39

We considered Dorothea for dc4 (who is a ds!), and decided we definately prefer Dorothy with Dottie/Dot/Dolly for a nn.

Why would they pick on her at school for Dorothy?

Do you think Dot Cotton will still be around in five years time????

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 04/04/2009 21:41

Your not a fan of eastenders then?

FluffyBunnyGoneBad · 04/04/2009 21:42

I wouldn't be surprised Marthasmum.

There was a little girl in ds's reception class called Berry. It was a sweet name.

everGreensleeves · 04/04/2009 21:42

They wouldn't. People worry far too much about "will this name cause bullying" or "will this lunch box cause bullying" - I don't know what causes bullying for a particular child, but IMO if the bullies are going to target a particular child they will FIND something - whether it's glasses, a funny accent, the wrong shoes, or just plain old "ugh you smell" - most primary classes these days have a wide array of unusual names and one is no more likely to attract bullying than any other.

tummytickler · 04/04/2009 21:42

No - dont watch it at all , i am aware of who Dot Cotton is though.
Surely kids at school arent up watching that trash though

Penny is a lovely nick name, but that might be because I knew a really lovely girl called Penny.

yama · 04/04/2009 21:51

Love Dorothea.

Strangely don't like Dorothy though.

Have never liked Penelope. My wee brother always read it as 'Penny-lope' and could never say the name. Mind you he read Siobhan as 'Si-oh-ban'.

I like Thea, it's pretty. Dorothea is nice in its own right too. I don't like Penelope, but that's for personal association reasons

JaquelinehydeAllTheEggs · 04/04/2009 21:59

Dorothy and Penelope I love both are beautiful.

Also love Victoria.

Alishanty · 04/04/2009 22:01

My gran's real name was Dorothy, think it was like the Ruby/Grace of her day as she always went by her middle name of Hilda as Dorothy was too common! Maybe it is due a revival.

KingRoloEgg · 04/04/2009 22:01

Dorothy is a lovely name .
