Oh, I know an Axel. Also had a lecturer at uni called Axel Kruse. He was dead cool.

I considered Dragon as a middle name a few years ago. Finn Dragon. Still quite like it but wouldn't use it now.

solidgoldshaggingbunnies · 04/04/2009 16:59

Sure it's not Dragan, which is (I think) a Yugoslavian or Hungarian name?

louisejohnson87 · 04/04/2009 17:09

No its Dragon as in the mythical creature!!!! Very very strange! The worst part is their sister is called something like Jane!!!! Couldn't have a more plainor boring name compared to them!!!

stroppyknickers · 04/04/2009 17:12

i just heard a griffin - fab name. let them eat cake - Star is a perfect name for your little one.

muggglewump · 04/04/2009 17:16

I once met a Kick. I asked if it was Dutch (the parents were Dutch) and was told no, it was Kick as in erm Kick!

I have to say, he is the loveliest 7 year old I have ever met. DD was 14 months at the time, we were in Indonesia and spent 4 days with the family. They really were lovely.

LetThemEatCake · 04/04/2009 17:22

ooooh, I love Griffin. Definitely on my list except that with a Phoenix already in my brood, I would be worried that people thought I had a menagerie of mythical beasts!!!

"these are my children, Phoenix, Dragon, Griffin and Unicorn. And Medusa."

LetThemEatCake · 04/04/2009 17:23

actually, Medusa would be my sister in law. Beeeyatch. Or Circe, since she thinks she has such a way with animals and men

ROFL at my own wit and venom.

Takver · 04/04/2009 17:25

Seren (ie Star) is a popular - and I think very pretty - Welsh girls name.

QuackQuackQuackQuack · 04/04/2009 19:13

I agree, star was a perfect choice

lunamoon2 · 04/04/2009 21:45

Don't actually know of anybody called these names.
I think it does depend on your surname.

"River Phoenix" sounds good, but then again, Phoenix was a made up name, his parents choose to be called when they joined some kind of commune.

MANATEEequineOHARA · 04/04/2009 21:52

I knew of an Indigo, and have met a boy called River, I think River is a really cool boy's name.

My dd's middle name is Star and I love it! I wanted it to be her first name, but idiot ex would not let me >(

everGreensleeves · 04/04/2009 21:53

I want Rainbow for a girl, and dh incredibly agreed to it too - but we only had boys

everGreensleeves · 04/04/2009 21:53

I know two little girls called Star - it's a name a child does grow into, it's not remotely outlandish when there's a little girl attached to it.

neolara · 04/04/2009 21:55

I love Indigo but haven't been brave enough to use it. It made my short list both times though.

everGreensleeves · 04/04/2009 21:58

I don't like Indigo, it reminds me too strongly of doe-eyed hardcore millet-munching crystal fiends murmuring "Ah well, he's an Indigo child" while their little darling rips the joint apart exercises his creative spirit

Greensleeves did you call your boys something equally original?

FairLadyOfMuslinCloth · 05/04/2009 00:45

well, not names I would chose...but am surprised at the river comments...I mean, River Phoenix was like iconic....and Indigo does work wiht River, I suppose

Cailleachna · 05/04/2009 00:49

We called our daughter Lyra - and if our next is a boy he'll be named Will (Dark Materials trilogy). Lyra doesn't seem to be especially common at the moment but it might be by the time she gets to school - who knows?

everGreensleeves · 05/04/2009 01:03

My boys' names are unusual but not startlingly so. Why do you ask?

LetThemEatCake · 05/04/2009 09:02

Lyra is a beautiful name.

love Star as a middle name and considered giving it to my next dd but thought might be too much of a 'burden' in view of the history.

Not knocking it as a first name - obviously, since I chose it for our first dd - and love the celestial connotations but fear overshadowed in current social climate by fame connotations .. just would not have felt comfortable with it as a 'playground' name. I have this whole issue with the newer generations and aspirations towards to celebrity, the scourge of reality TV and gossip mags ,,, blah blah blah - whole 'nother story, don't get me started!!!

Indigo children!!! Remember seeing hilarious documentary when pregnant, what whacko parents!!! Brilliance!

QuackQuackQuackQuack · 05/04/2009 09:28

Greensleeves I was just curious as you said you picked rainbow if you had a girl, so I wondered if your boys names were as original
