Known mostly as Woody?

Our DS have fairly strong but unusual names .
My choices would be - Stirling, Albert, Dexter, Fergus.

My DH loves Woodrow aka Woody.

Love it, also love your other names. I like unusual names though. Really love Stirling

I'm sure someone will be along shortly to tell you that it is awful

Thanks LPP

It just some people think its too toy story but I appreciate my other name choices could be considered hard to live with too.

I am at a loss as to what is chavvy and what is acceptable and unusual these days. Having just heard a child called Ely in the park today!

They're not really my style, but I do quite like Dexter and Fergus. Albert is fine, too, but getting a bit popular as Albie? Not so keen on Stirling. Woody fine; Woodrow a bit much for me.

But honestly, none of them would make me laugh at you behind your back

Washersaurus · 03/04/2009 21:37

Hmmm... Eli is a biblical name and Woodrow George sounds like a house builder....I prefer your other names, esp Dexter and Fergus. None are unusual names around here though tbh, there is at least one of each at our nursery

tummytickler · 03/04/2009 21:37

Woodrow is lovely, love it.
How do you pronounce Ely, was it a boy or girl (and why is it chavvy?).

nevergoogledragonbutter · 03/04/2009 21:39

Woodrow is good.

tummytickler · 03/04/2009 21:39

Aaah - if it was Eli (as pp said) then it is from the bible and hpefully not chavvy as my 6 year old son is called Eli!

tigerdriver · 03/04/2009 21:40

Stirling - excellent, who wouldn't want to be called after Stirling Moss?

Woodrow, makes me think of Woodrow Wyatt, that old Fleet St hack, and his daughter Petronella (says it all)

suwoo · 03/04/2009 21:40

Love it actually. Would be ridiculous with our surname (1st 3 letters of which are in my username). Sounds like a US president.

randomrabbit · 03/04/2009 21:43

woodrow is awful sorry
like Dexter tho

pippylongstockings · 03/04/2009 21:47

I don't think Eli is chavvy - I thought it was very biblical and unusual choice.

Ely (like the town) would be pronounced Eely but Eli is a perfectly good Hebrew name

Woodrow was a US pres once (Woodrow Wilson)

Leannabanana · 04/04/2009 09:59

absolutely fantastic. i love Woodrow.

TsarChasm · 04/04/2009 10:09

Woody is quite jaunty.

Watched a programme last night with Ranulph Fiennes and his friends called him 'Ran' which was cool I thought.

pippylongstockings · 04/04/2009 15:05

Nevergoogledragonbutter - I just have!!

I guess you can shorten it to Row? As well as Woody?
There is a boy at DS1 school called Ro short for Rowan I think that sounds ok.

Idranktheeasterspirits · 04/04/2009 17:05

Woodrow George - as in Taylor Woodrow and George Wimpey. (housebuilders). Sorry.

Karam · 05/04/2009 11:05

My Friend's DS is Woody, short for Woodrow - at first I wasn't sure, but not it just really suits him and I couldn't imagine him as anything else. I love it, cute - only concern would be the teenage years - "Morning woody??"
