Archer?

for a boy?
Archer Alexander, perhaps

From my POV:
pros: strong, masculine, mythical overtones (you know, wild huntsman, centaurs and all that)

cons: will get shortened to Archie

what do you lot think?

Will he shoot?
Will he score bullseyes?
Will he look good in Lincoln Green?

LetThemEatCake · 03/04/2009 13:56

will def look good in green.

Shooting and scoring bullseyes, we shall see when he gets some poor young lass knocked up, I s'pose

NOOOOOOO.

Faintly chavvy, it's a surname and a horrible drink.

Not a first name.

ByThePowerOfGreyskull · 03/04/2009 14:50

we know a little baby called archer.. it seems to work well with the family - they aren't mainstream, they are quite arty.

SoupDreggon · 03/04/2009 14:57

Dear god no!

TsarChasm · 03/04/2009 15:02

Blimey no - There's a whole load of people out there that're going to think 'rum-te-tum-te-tum- te-tum' and R4.

LetThemEatCake · 03/04/2009 17:30

at faintly chavvy - really??? Not a name I've heard shouted on my travels around Bluewa'er

horrible drink, R4, rum-te-tum etc -huh?? these mean nothing to me. I'm Australian, so maybe that's why? And we are moving back there next year, so maybe these things would not mean anything to anyone back home either?

It's a surname - I haven't got a problem with that

'they aren't mainstream, they are quite arty' - um, I wouldn't go that far about us but we are both freelancers and both, um, work in creative fields, so not exactly mainstream ... but I wouldn't go so far as to describe us as 'upmarket boho' which is what one of my very conservative friends described us as once

Hmmm. All food for thought.

I think it is chavvy in a big way, or would be used that way round here anyway - but you could carry it off if you're 'upmarket boho' and give it a bit of style I guess

but i still don't think it's an attractive name

there are far nicer boys names out there IMO

traceybath · 03/04/2009 17:52

I quite like it but then i love the archers .

Would get shortened to archie though which would also put me off a bit. Archie is a lovely name but very popular.

LetThemEatCake · 03/04/2009 17:53

do you mind me asking where 'around here' is?

We're NOT upmarket boho!! LOL

nellynaemates · 03/04/2009 18:03

I like Archie, but dislike Archer (makes me think of Jeffrey). Also think Archer Alexander doesn't sound too good together.

LetThemEatCake · 03/04/2009 18:13

is Hunter chavvy in this neck of the woods?

see, a few of my well-to-do, completely middle class friends in Australia have Hunters, and I'd say that Hunter and Archer were in more or less the same vein, name-wise?

re: upmarket boho, I think what my friend was trying to say is that we are a bit scruffy, but with a reasonable amount of money LOL

I'm near Portsmouth LTEC

round here an archer would have a shaved head by 18 months, plus a gold ear-ring!!!!

what other names do you like?

LetThemEatCake · 03/04/2009 18:35

"round here an archer would have a shaved head by 18 months, plus a gold ear-ring!!!!"

not a pretty picture.

Well, dd is named Phoenix Isabella
ds is Cassian William

if a girl, this dc will be Anoushka Emiliana
if a boy ... Zephaniah, Zacharius are our faves so far

I think Archer isn't 'chavvy' at all.

I think it's masculine and classy for a boy.

GossipMonger · 04/04/2009 10:39

i can only think of that twonk Jeffrey Archer!!

nappyaddict · 13/04/2009 12:45

It sounds made up to me sorry.

MadameCastafiore · 13/04/2009 12:46
