Yep, it's cute

MrsSeanBean · 28/03/2009 15:54

Maude is even nicer.

Not keen myself, sounds old ladyish to me.

Wasn't there a witch called Maude in something?

purepurple · 28/03/2009 16:10

reminds me of Harold and Maude, one of my favourite films

Heated · 28/03/2009 16:11

I know two, one who has a sister called Tilda.

Think it's edgy and a good change from frilly-frilly fou-fou.

FruitynNutty · 28/03/2009 16:12

The Worst Witch disenchanted, I loved that film/book!

Thunderduck · 28/03/2009 16:16

No. It's awful.

tummytickler · 28/03/2009 16:17

I love Maude - it was in ther running for dd2 but we went with Pearl instead. We then met a baby Maude at Pearls baby signing group, so there could have been two Maudes in Pearls reception class in September, as they are starting the same school!
So ramble aside, i love it and would use it as a mn in the future (but Jean Maude does not go)

Tillyscoutsmum · 28/03/2009 16:17

I like it but its a variation of Matilda, so I couldn't have both

LetThemEatCake · 28/03/2009 16:21

no way. Old frumpy lady name.

A variation of matilda, really? Matilda is lovely. As in Waltzing Matilda. (I am Australian) I posited Bronte Matilda or Gypsy Matilda for our dd but dh was horrified.

Tillyscoutsmum · 28/03/2009 16:31

It is - my Grandmother was Matilda but was always known as Maud. Not sure if its an Irish thing ? (like Jack/John etc.) A couple of the baby names mentioned it as well

LetThemEatCake · 28/03/2009 16:34

gosh, I don't know why you would take a name as pretty as MATILDA and then call someone Maud.

Then again, I don't know why I thought that Gypsy was a nice name 3 years ago either!!!

Sibh · 28/03/2009 16:39

My DD is Maebh but we call her Maud as a nickname and it is just lovely. I'm an Irish lit academic, and so when she plays hide and seek I get to shout 'Maud - gone'. I guess you have to be there.

weepootle · 28/03/2009 16:48

Really Heated? Did the mum know they are both shortenings of Matilda?!

Heated · 28/03/2009 18:01

No idea Weepootle. They are just Maude and Tilda I think, it would be too odd to be Matilda and Matilda!

missymoo2411 · 28/03/2009 18:25

my gran was called maude and a lady i worked with was maudie which is quite nice but i wouldnt use it personally but it is one that will be popula very soon i think

jabberwocky · 28/03/2009 18:44

I like it.

Actresses Maude Adams and Maud Adams definitely NOT frumpy.

grouchyoscar · 28/03/2009 18:53

As my friend has a daughter called Scout and DH balks at Calpurnia, Maude (or Maudie) is the only girl's name I have

Maybe I should read other books

jellybeans · 28/03/2009 19:52

bit too old ladyish

Eyeballsinthesky · 28/03/2009 19:54

My mother wanted me to call DD Maudie. She suggested worse but it wasn't for me.

frazzledoldbag · 28/03/2009 20:10

I like Maud and Maude. Unusual and pretty. Shame I'm having a boy then...........

ja9 · 28/03/2009 20:12

I just hate it. I think it is such an ugly ugly vile name. And I really really want to like it - it was my lovely granny's name and i would have loved to have it as part of dd's name, but i just couldn't even like it remotely.

bigfatbump2009 · 28/03/2009 20:16

I think Maude is gorgeous and agree with the OP.
