You're joking, right?

StudentMadwife · 27/03/2009 20:55

why

other kids will end up calling him gemma or something

Thunderduck · 27/03/2009 20:55

No, absolutely not. It's asking for his life to be made a misery by bullies.

Meglet · 27/03/2009 20:56

please don't.

StudentMadwife · 27/03/2009 20:56

your not from glastonbury are you?

Grammaticus · 27/03/2009 20:56

Grim, tbh.

SoupDragon · 27/03/2009 20:56

No.

PeppermintPatty · 27/03/2009 20:56

I like it. Reminds me of Jem (from to kill a mockingbird). Is it short for anything? I don't think I would use it on it's own.

gigglewitch · 27/03/2009 20:57

I know a (10yo) Jem which is short for Jeremy.

Otherwise I don't think so

dizzydixies · 27/03/2009 20:57

as a NN for James its lovely but I wouldn't just on its own

Anne in Anne of Green Gables and Gilbert Blythe names their son James nn Gem

Heated · 27/03/2009 20:57

Even Jem with a J, short for Jeremy, is a bit brave but surely some trendy celeb will reclaim it? I love To Kill A Mockingbird.

kalo12 · 27/03/2009 20:58

I would spell it Jem

I am genuinely surprised at your reactions!
I think it's quite a mild name and indicates a handsome boy!

i knew one once. dunno if it was short for anything. didn't seem way out wacky at the time, just unusual, although looking back i'm surprised it didn't seem more odd considering my generation are a sea of andrews, simons and pauls.

mileniwmffalcon · 27/03/2009 21:22

(with a j)

notsoteenagemum · 27/03/2009 21:26

I like it with the J don't know if I'd be brave enough to use it though depends on who he'd be going to school with.

changer22 · 27/03/2009 21:26

Yes, with a J.
