Curious about how to match siblings names

There's often posts on here about how to pick names that 'match' the older siblings.

I may be dim but I don't get it - what are the rules of matching? Obviously Connie and Bonnie sounds hideous together but I don't get what logic people use to respond to these questions.

This is a serious question - worried I'll make a mistep with dc2!

My children's names all have the same amount of syllables in them, which just makes them flow beautifully. The names also just 'go' together.

Here in Ireland I notice that if a family have a Conor and then have a little girl, they usually call her Ciara.

Does it really matter if siblings names match. And what exactly does "match" mean anyway when it comes to names. Rhyming? If so, we've done quite well, we have an Annabel and a Daniel who are usually abbreviated to Annie and Danny. When thier cousin Frances visits it's a veritable rhyme-fest - Annie, Danny and Frannie! Purely accidental of course when the names were chosen but we think it's quite funny.
Don't get hung up about it, there are much, much more important things to worry about than children's names.

Hope Faith and Kevin is LOL

Gossipmonger, why is DD1 miffed about having an Indian name, does she feel she should have had an English one?

I went to school with 3 sisters called Rosy, Daisy and Lily. We always joked a third would be called Deadly Nightshade.

I know 3 girls now called Amelia Rose.

We have 3 dc. First 2 are boys, both with strong, long, traditional but not often used first names. We spent 8 months struggling with potential third boys names. Luckily dc3 was a girl. Phew.

Another school friend who was one of 5 had parents who alternated choosing the children's names and they had very different styles. Can't remember them all but there was a Dmitri, a Saskia, and a Kate, I think.

Not RL, but when I was younger and watched 'Neighbours' I always thought it was quite clever that the twins, who had been named Elizabeth and William, were known as LiBBy and BiLLy.

When I was expecting DC1 I had Catriona and Murray at the top of my names lists, but when I had the baby and it she was a tiny girl who just didn't seem to suit Catriona she (eventually) became Ruby. I realised then that if I ever had a DS I wouldn't be able to call him my boy's name choice otherwise it would be Ruby & Murray!! Too close to the cockney rhyming slang.

I have a Tom and wanted to call number 2 Harry but couldn't face a lifetime of "where's dick?" jokes... so he got stuck with Jack instead.

On a related topic, also realised that my first choice, Oliver, wasn't a great idea with our surname Groves. Or Labroke...

Funny someone mentioned the royal fixation thing; DD was going be Sophie Elizabeth, but as my MIL is a staunch Royalist and I'm v. definitely in favour of getting shot of the lot of 'em, didn't want any confusion!
She ended up Sophie Olivia, which thrilled her great nan who was called Olive.

She was an amazing woman who passed away last year when DD was 3.6 and I'm so pleased we made that choice, especially as DD is showing signs of having her great nana's feisty streak!

I guess I always try and match length of name I have and Annalise and Ezekiel so couldn't name the next child Mark

I knew a couple who had children called Anastasia and Kevin. They were French/American so the Kevin sounded nicer than it does with an English accent but they still didn't really work together!

We chose our first dd's name from Greek mythology and our second dd also has a Greek name. Their middle names are sort of linked as well. We just didn't want to give one an unusual (or weird, as one midwife put it) name and not the other one. The first is named Ariadne Hope and the other is Haidee Serenity.
