Tryphena and Tryphosa
or
Aloysia and Constanza

for my baby love birds?

I think I have narrowed it down to those options.

Please say what you really think - I won't be offended.

it depends on their surname

wrinklytum · 23/03/2009 23:06

Tryphena and tryphosa sounds like some kind of weird trans fatty acid (Thinks back to chemistry lessons!)

I prefer the latter.

Are they Spanish Lovebirds

hf128219 · 23/03/2009 23:06

None of them!

redpyjamas · 23/03/2009 23:10

They are all real names, I assure you.

Please don't take offense, but are they not a bit erm, poncey?

I just imagine having to explain them to every single person who comes round.

How about something a bit more 'chav' like Posh and Becks, Jordan and Peter, Brad and Angelina?

redpyjamas · 23/03/2009 23:22

I love poncey! Glad you think so.
I can be as poncey as I like when they are birds, not humans.
Have asked loads of people for suggestions, and I admit I'm the only one who likes Aloysia and Constanza. My sister suggested Tryphena and Tryphosa. There are particular reasons for both of those options.
I'm just curious really to hear what people think. Tbh, it wouldn't sway my final decision. Rightly or wrongly.

Anything to do with slebs is out, as I have never had a tv or taken any interest in them.

Poncy is excellent in pets (and the only time you can really get away with total name silliness). I see that Tryphena and Tryphosa are briefly names from the Bible, is that the connection you like, or the Puritan one (or the Thomas Hardy one)?

BFQi · 24/03/2009 09:12

What (if anything) do you think you will end up shortening those options to?
I quite like T&T, and they sound more gender-neutral, if that's what you want. A&C nice birdy names too, but how do you pronounce Aloysia?
Aren't you tempted to choose the names of a couple? How about Papegeno and Papagena (with the added benefit of a musical reference, but perhaps a bit inappropriate given Papageno's profession)?

KristinaM · 24/03/2009 13:58

what if they get bullied at school because of their poncy names?

i think i would also go for a fictional couple, like Elizabeth and Mr Darcy.

MadreInglese · 24/03/2009 14:00

Romeo and Juliet for lovebirds, surely?

redpyjamas · 24/03/2009 23:19

Hi.
Thanks for the opinions. The A and C idea is indeed for the musical connection. Aloysia is pronounced 'Aloysha'.
You are right nooka - the T and T option is because of the Biblical connection, as all the other members of my nuclear family have names from the same chapter in Romans, in the Bible. It was a fluke to begin with, but when I spotted it I called my last pet a name from that same chapter too. So T and T would be in keeping with that.
I might just have to draw the choices out of a hat.

Now I'm thinking shall I try and look that up, just to be clever I'd choose that pair then, sounds like a cool connection!

makingafamily · 25/03/2009 03:47

What does everyone think of double first names? Eg.... Freddie-James?

screamingabdab · 25/03/2009 14:56

Nigel and Barry?
