Aurora

will this ever lose the disney connotation? I love it but don't want her to think we named her after a disney princess......

Not keen prefer Athena.

fanjoforthemammaries7850 · 17/03/2009 09:10

I like it

wastingmyeducation · 17/03/2009 09:11

Didn't know it was a princess. Would automatically think of the northern lights.

suwoo · 17/03/2009 09:14

Hasn't disenchanted called her baby this? I like it.

StripeyKnickersSpottySocks · 17/03/2009 09:15

Not keen.

2Helenback · 17/03/2009 09:36

Not keen, soorry. Makes me think of that bit around the nipple, the name of which escapes me right now.

Wasn't princess Aurora another name for Briar Rose?

LadyPinkofPinkerton · 17/03/2009 09:45

I like it, never heard of the disney princess. Very pretty name

LuLuBai · 17/03/2009 10:35

I have always secretly liked it, although the Princess thing worries me too. I went to school with a French girl called Aurore which was a little less Disney (esp when combined with her rather gorgeous French surname). I love the Northern Lights association though.

I've known a couple of Aurelias too which I think is very pretty.

jennylindinha · 17/03/2009 10:38

My DD's middle name is Aurea which is similar but lovely too (I think so anyway ). I also like Aurelia.

saintmaybe · 17/03/2009 10:42

I considered this for dd. was very glad we decided against, as she was/is an astonishingly loud shouter, and I know I'd have been thinking 'a roarer'. Tis pretty though.

SouthernMeerkat · 17/03/2009 12:23

We are currently working on the Aurora portfolio at work - which is the new name for the Mosaic chain of shops (Karen Millen, Oasis, Coast) etc - so wouldn't work for me!

How about Dawn instead (which is what it means) ?

dizzydixies · 17/03/2009 12:27

I only knew because we watched Sleeping Beauty yesterday

wotulookinat · 17/03/2009 12:36

Nope. Makes me think of nipples too.

EdwardBear · 17/03/2009 12:37

I like it. Didnt know there was a Disney character called it

letswiggle · 17/03/2009 12:39

Quite often used here in Italy - and not really associated with Disney. I like it, but was also thinking 'a roarer'.

How about Araminta?

Nancy66 · 17/03/2009 12:51

I really like it. have to make sure everyone in your family can pronounce their 'Rs' though. "Aworwa" doesn't sound quite so good.

RachieB · 17/03/2009 14:38

lol nancy!

i am not keen TBH

troutpout · 17/03/2009 14:40

not keen sorry

MrsMattie · 17/03/2009 14:41

Love it. Considered it for my DD.

Sycamoretree · 17/03/2009 14:47

I like it. Some people have a real job getting their mouth around it - but I wouldn't let that put me off.

LuLuBai · 17/03/2009 17:35

Some people have a real job getting their mouth around anything that isn't Jane or Kate.

belgo · 17/03/2009 17:38

I'm one of those people for whom Aurora is a tongue twister. It's a pretty name apart from that.

Just make sure, if your child has real difficulties with speech, get them really good speech therapy because it's really embarrasing when you have difficulty pronouncing your own name.

fruitstick · 17/03/2009 17:39

I can't say it either!
