ZurichMum · 16/03/2009 15:04

I have a daughter Lilian Molly Puskas and am thinking of Helena or Miriam for number two. Potential second name Lina and last name Puskas.

So

Helena Lina Puskas or
Miriam Lina Puskas

The name has to work in German, French, English and ...... Hungarian ...

Any comments or help !!

I really like both names. I don't know about any strange meanings in foreign lands though.

Sorry no help at all!!

I love Helena but not with Lina (too similar because it would be Lay-na + Lee-na IYSWIM) I'm not sure about them working in the languages you mention either, but my initial thought is you should be fine. Especially in German and English.

ZZZen · 18/03/2009 11:39

They all work in German but I do agree with the last poster that Helena Lina doesn't sound that good together.

Cies · 18/03/2009 11:39

I don't know about the other languages, but I like both names in English.

MargotBeauregarde · 18/03/2009 12:44

Not mad about Helena. The Hs confuse me. I prefer Anna to Hanna.

Elena is nicer imo. But Lilian with sister Elena is a lot of Ls and Ns.

Miriam would be a better choice. WHat about Marianne? That would be pronounceable in all languages I think.

Or Leonora nn Lina?

Vivien 'goes' with Lilian imo. Do you like that?

BonsoirAnna · 18/03/2009 12:46

Too many "l" everywhere.

Helena Lina is just a non-starter IMO, even before factoring in her sister Lilian Molly.

Miriam and Lilian are too similar.

ZurichMum · 19/03/2009 13:44

I totally agree that Helena Lina is a mouthfull (Lina is husbands choice ..) but do we often actually use the second name ...?

and Miriam being very similar to Lilian is an issue !

Only a few weeks to go so I better smarten up on this !

Thanks for ongoing input ......

Sara? Doesn't that work in practically every language? Very pretty too.

Am very tempted to recommend Saralinda as in James Thurber's 13 Clocks....but Sara Lina is not good.

I know from experience that Lina/Lena is an absolute nightmare to try and fit in as a second name. I do think though that it's quite a nice first name - Lilian and Lina are quite sweet as a pair?

Lina Rose
Lina Catherine
Sara Miriam

Themasterandmargaritas · 19/03/2009 13:51

Helena is lovely but I agree that it does seem a little too much with the Lina and Lilian. How about Sasha? It works in English, French, I assume it works in Hungarian it being a slav name (?) I have no idea if it works in German though....

ZurichMum · 19/03/2009 13:54

do we think that Helena and Lilian are bad together if we ignore the Lina dimension ?

Helena Elisabeth for example ?

I do. Too many Ls and Ns. It's like there's no other consonants.

Use different consonants. Miriam would be so much better because it's a similar length and style, but different sounds.

choosyfloosy · 19/03/2009 14:06

Sorry, I think Helena and Lilian match too closely on consonants, and Lilian and Miriam match too closely on vowels!

Themasterandmargaritas · 19/03/2009 14:08

I'm with Choosy, both are just too much together! How about Marta?

Buda · 19/03/2009 14:12

I love Petra. Know a few Hungarian Petras!

DS has a Hungarian Kamilla in his class at school. Also a Rebeka.

Buda · 19/03/2009 14:16

Lots of Hungarian girl's names here - you may find something that will work for you.

ZurichMum · 19/03/2009 14:33

KATARINA

SARA

FRANCISKA

VICTORIA

Not an L in sight !!! still heavy on A and I in all cases ....

Hmm I am sure this would be easier if I was not at work and trying to read documents and pick names all in one very small brain ....

Wolfblass · 19/03/2009 14:59

Petra or Sascha, how about Fleur?

ZurichMum · 19/03/2009 15:52

Hmm not sure I could do Petra Puskas ......

Hadn't thought of that ZM! Any relation to the footballer???

(We know a family - Dad is Peter, Mum is Petra and they called their son Patrick!)

ZurichMum · 20/03/2009 05:47

We re-evaluated last night: and Victoria seems up there with the best - I have not lived in the UK for over 10 years - is there a total surge of Victorias following the Victoria Beckam rise to fame ?????

It was so much easier with Lilian !

Buda: no relation to the footballer but definately different taste in names .....

Buda · 20/03/2009 07:07

Victoria is lovely. May well be shortened to Vicky though so be sure you like that too.

It's a classic name - can't say I know any little girls called Victoria so not sure how popular it is.

I so know what you mean by different taste in names. You know that imaginary game you play early on where you name your imaginary children? DH suggested Beverly for a girl. No offence to any Beverlys out there but NO WAY!

piscesmoon · 20/03/2009 07:17

I think that Victoria is lovely, there aren't many at the moment but it is a classic name.

belgo · 20/03/2009 07:42

Agree, Victoria is a lovely name, and it works well in other languages.

LuLuBai · 20/03/2009 07:51

How about Cosima?

MmeLindt · 20/03/2009 07:51

Victoria is lovely, a bit underused at the moment for some reason.

Sasha is a boy's name in Germany.

I like Helena, very classy and elegant.

Katerina or Caterina?

Caterina Francesca Puskas
