GIrley and Unisex names

I was reading the Kate/Katie thread and saw the discussion about Katy Katherine Kate Katie etc.. and it made me wonder something so I figured I would start a new thread..

My name is as my sign in Lonnie..
I HATE it I always always have and I LOATHE unisex names with a passion My entire life have I had to spell it and since I moved to the UK I get letters and phone calls to Mr Lonnie X.. it infuriates me..

So I find it interesting that it is suggested that Katie is a girley name however there are many unisex names that are the eee ending

Ronnie, Lonnie, Donnie, Sonnie/y and I dont find any of them cutsey in fact I find most unisex names very tom boyish and I was most certainly a girley girl as a child (and frankly I still am now)

So my question is.. Why is it assumed hat it is not ok to give a girley name for a child? but fine to use unisex names? I have never quite gottten this..

My 3 daughters have all got very feminine names but none of them have cutsey names and none of them have unisex names.. It was on my complete no go list to do but I notice plenty feel that unisex names are kinda cool

well, I'm not keen on unisex names or cute names.

Girly names I see as very feminine frilly names e.g Isabella

Katie I'd say was a nickname for katherine and my personal preference is always to give the full name.

not sure that answered your question but then again I'm unsure what the question was!

I have a unisex name and agree re the getting Mr letters but I actually quite like my name and think it is more of a girls than a boys name

(My dcs have very "normal and popular" names, though

My preference is to give a girl a proper girls name and a boy a proper boys name.

Having said that I have always secretly admired girls who have introduced themselves as for example Leigh, or other unisex names, but would never call my own child a name along those lines.
I don't know if any of this makes sense!!!!
I think it is along the lines of not wanting to burden my child with the trauma of having to clarify if they are a boy or a girl, or having somebody spell their name with the incorrect gender form, for example, Lesley instead of Leslie.
If you call your child Matthew everyone SHOULD know that he is a boy.
