I knew a little boy (must be about 7 now) called Tygre - even worse than Tiger in my opinion.

If you wanted to give your child a name that meant light or giver of light, why not Luke rather than Lucifer. Obviously nasty parents/satanists. Poor child

I sometimes think registrars should have a 'panic button' linked direct to some higher authority with the pwer to prevent this sort of thing.

I think this poor kid's background suggests that his parents don't have any understanding of what the name means or where it comes from.

I don't think reading is high on their list of chosen activities. I suspect they have heard the name somewhere, and thought "that sounds nice, and there aren't a lot of them about".

Actually I think that is the worst name I have ever heard, and I am normally non judgy about names.

You would have thought someone (grandma, midwife, HV, registrar) might have told them what it means.

Interestingly it makessense that Lucifer means bringer of light - after all Lucifer was the angel of light before he rebelled against God and was cast from heaven. (My Dad's a preacher so I was brought up with this stuff)

Wiggletastic, he coped just fine (although copped a few detentions from supply teachers who thought he was taking the preverbial) went to top University and doing very well for himself these days I believe. Luckily for him, we lived and grew up in a bit of a bohmenian bubble where it wasn't so odd and nothing was considered stranger than mediocrity
