long fancy girls name to match other DC...

I have daughters named Genevieve (Gigi) and Celestine (Celeste), and a son named William (Billy).
I'm now pregnant with DC4, another girl.
We're seriously considering;

Violet / Violette - only problem is what to shorten either to (Vivi would be confusing alongside Gigi.) Don't like Letty.

Ottilie - nn Lottie/Lotta since Tilly wouldn't work well with Billy! Any other ideas what it could be shortened to?

Marianna - nn Mimi (DH's favourite as named after his late mother). Tennysons depressing poem puts me off a bit. Also concerned that wouldn't match well with our surname, a Mc name of 3 syllables.

Evangeline - but Evie would be confusing with Gigi. Know of any other nn's?

Emmanuelle - nn Esme or Emmy. (My favourite because a family name on my side) but yes we do know the 70's soft porn connotations. Does it really matter??!

If you have a minute, which do you think "goes" best with my other children, or can you think of anything better? (Francesca has bad associations for me; DH doesn't like Josephine; DH is Irish but we don't want a traditional Irish name; DH doesn't want anything that sounds Scottish; meanings are important to us, as is being unusual (for girls).

How about Viola or Violette instead of Violet or Violetta.

Seraphina is lovely. I also like Cordelia, Arabella and Anastasia.

Iolanthe was title of Gilbert & Sullivan operetta thingy, and the song was sung Eye-o-lan-theeeeeeeee if I remember correctly.

(Why can I remember this stuff from 25 years ago, then forget why I've puffed all the way up stairs?)

I really like Persephone - Sephi for short.

I also love Elizabeth - Libby.
But also like Seraphina

Hi Hedgiemum - do you mind me asking - what did you go with?? I had an Ottilie at the same time you were expecting your dd and think we had a conversation on my thread asking for opinions on names because we liked all the same ones!
Upsides of Ottilie: I still love it, some people hear it and absolutely adore it.
Downsides: "ottilie bottilie!" from terribly original people.
She has ended up being Ottie half the time - which isn't all that great, but it just happened.
People can't spell it - even close relatives. Our Christmas cards were addressed to Otterly, Ottilly, Otilie, Ottaly - you name it.

Haven't read replies, so apologies if I repete what other shave said...

Love Marianna, but not Mimi. Gigi and Mimi? Really? Way too cutesy.

Like Otillie / Lottie/Lotta - really lovely.

Evangeline id great, but might become Evie. Sweet but way over-used.

Emmanuelle is awful. Please, NO! Emmeline?

NannyState · 12/01/2011 20:29

repeat

AnnOnimous · 12/01/2011 21:38

Oh I love Delphine too, but I'm biased as its my dd's name! We call her Delphy for short.

QBEE · 12/01/2011 23:03
