Davy for a girl???

We are expecting DC3 in May and seriously stuck on girls names.

Boys names we have narrowed down to 3
Zachary
Liam
Saul
With Davey as the middle name.

For a girl we are stuck and then i thought of Davy or Davi either with or without -Jane.
Reasons behind the name are that my Grandad passed away last June and his name was David. He use to refer to himself in the past as Davey and this is how i remmeber him. I would really like to include him somewhere in the name.
We already have two girls and both there names are connected to others in the family ie, great nan and great great nan and great grandmas.
DH is very unsure of Davi/Davy-jane for a girl, but the more i say it the more i like it. So what does the world of MN think?

I don't like it at all, perhaps for a middle name?

RachieB · 07/03/2009 09:32

I'm sorry i dont like it

know a girl called Stevie and it just seems weird to me ! lol

lovely to have the family name but maybe as middle name ?

lalalonglegs · 07/03/2009 09:32

I'm with DH. Let's hope it is a boy - Saul is my husband's name and David is his dad's name: very cool combination.

kidcreoleandthecoconuts · 07/03/2009 09:32

Mmm not keen tbh. And definately NOT hyphenated.
What about using it as a middle name?

Are there any other first names you like which would sound nice with it?

What about....

Alice Davi
Isobel Davi
Arabella Davi

LackaDAISYcal · 07/03/2009 09:33

perhaps for a middle name? It's common enough for girls to have surnames as a middle name. Definately no for a given name.

My sister has Cameron as a middle name...and it was either a boys name or surname when she was born.

Disenchanted3 · 07/03/2009 09:34

I like it

Leannabanana · 07/03/2009 09:35

i like it but wouldn't have it for a girl personally....my DH is called David and i think he would secretly like to have his name somewhere in the new baby's name....i love its meaning tho - 'the beloved one'

i say go for it....Davi Jane. lovely...x

mrsgamp · 07/03/2009 09:35

My 16 month old DS is called Davy - and he's a proper 'bruiser' of a little boy if you know what I mean! - so, no, can't imagine a girl with the same name!! Sorry!

Hulababy · 07/03/2009 09:40

I am not keen on "boys" names for girls. I don't like Davy (and def not Davi) sorry. If it is important to you for your grandad then use it as a middle name.

mommyinthemiddle · 07/03/2009 09:42

Thanks everyone

Still like it, well love it actually. Just need to talk DH round more

My other girls names are girls names but not very common. We have a very very common surname so wanted something a little different. Will be using another family members name for middle name just unsure which yet!

I like it but how about Davina as a full name, to give it a feminine edge? You could always abbreviate that to Davi/Davy

mommyinthemiddle · 07/03/2009 09:48

what about Davia?

geordieminx · 07/03/2009 09:48

Good idea wuss!!

duchesse · 07/03/2009 09:54

Cue confusion over her gender for evermore, by teachers, banks and employers, especially if she turns out to be a tomboy...

geordieminx · 07/03/2009 09:57

Ooo Duchesse - how the devil are you?

mommyinthemiddle · 07/03/2009 09:57

Thats why i want her to be Davi-jane. That would be her name and what people would call her.
DD1 is hypernated and very very rarely gets called just the first section if anything just the 2nd half by DD2. If anyone even tries to call her just the first half she corrects them and she is only 4!

I really don't like it as a first name for a little girl, but think its a lovely sentiment and would use it as a middle name

duchesse · 07/03/2009 10:10

Geordie!!! Hello!

Really, really well, thank you. 18 weeks and counting... Still anxious as hell. Anomaly scan on the 31st.

geordieminx · 07/03/2009 10:12

Really pleased for you, cant wait to hear your birth announcement in the summer

duchesse · 07/03/2009 10:19

But I don't even feel pregnant most of the time. Granted it is my 5th pregnancy (4th to get this far), but my only symptoms of pregnancy at the moment are slightly sore norks and getting out of breath going upstairs. With clothes I don't even look pregnant.

EdwardBear · 07/03/2009 10:22

Its not something I'd ever have picked out myself, but i like it!
I think it'll be one that grows on you when the baby is here.
Do like Davina as full name though and Davy for short.

frazzledoldbag · 07/03/2009 11:06

Davina seems the obvious solution. Pretty too I think?

lalalonglegs · 07/03/2009 11:21

Davey_Jane sounds like a C&W hopeful. Please don't do it.

dizzydixies · 07/03/2009 13:02

my DD3 is Dylan so I have no problem with names more commonly used for boys being given to girls - there are a few of us on here with more predominantly boys names used for our daughters but the majority don't like it

we DID decide though to have a girly first name and Dylan as her middle name, although this is what she is known by, to save any confusion on forms and to give her a choice when she's older if you see what I mean?

she suits Dylan and those who were sceptical have now shut up about it - just be aware you're going to get a lot of funny looks and comments from those with old fashioned views/no manners!!

on the flip side of this I myself have a hyphonated name which is something-jane and I've hated it all my days, sorry!! I just wish my mother had been decisive enough to pick one name and use it

good luck with whatever you choose and I think its lovely that you want to honor your grandfather by using his name

JemL · 07/03/2009 21:55

I like Davey for a girl. It is also the name of a character in a Judy Blume book I loved as a teenager
