Do you think the name Bertie is now a no go because of those blooming Dirty Bertie books?

Will the child be ripped apart at school?!

have never heard of dirty bertie books

noddyholder · 01/03/2009 21:56

I love it but don't know the books

diedandgonetodevon · 01/03/2009 21:56

I've never heard of the books either.

Love it as a nickname for Bertram & was on out list for DS.

maretta · 01/03/2009 21:59

No, don't think it's a problem.

Lilyloo · 01/03/2009 21:59

Surely same as
Henry , Horrid Henry
Stanley , Flat Stanley

etc

I personally wouldn't give any thought to books!

Bertolli · 01/03/2009 22:03

we have a Bertie and i love it!!!
He is a mini dude and it really suits him.
I don't know the books but i wouldn't let them put you off if you like the name..

Pollyanna · 01/03/2009 22:05

we had just read the book and then dd3 started nursery - there was a Bertie there. She did say dirty Bertie for a while, but has forgotten all about it now (I hid the book once I found out about nursery Bertie )

cherrysunday · 01/03/2009 22:11

I worry that 'dirty' is some how a lot worse than 'horrid' or 'flat'

i love it

SheWillBeLoved · 02/03/2009 09:51

Just reminds me of Bertie Basset.

Not my cup of tea I'm afraid, but if you love it then surely that's all that matters.

mickeylou · 02/03/2009 10:03

other children will think of a cheeky nickname regardless of what you call him! my son thinks it hilarious to call his friend ruby "boobies" at the moment. it wont last -go with the name you love.

But Dirty Bertie books are very funny and won't be popular by the time your LO is old enough to have them read to him.
it's lovely, but as a nickname. Can't it be short for Albert?

ScottishMummy · 02/03/2009 15:56

YES!everyone shouting No Bertie That's dirty Bertie.why not Albert instead
