I am having dd2 soon, and am considering calling her after her two great grannies, which would make her name Katherine Morag, or to put it another way, Katie Morag. Would you, knowing the book series of the same name? I have another name in mind too, but I keep coming back to this one. We are Scottish, incidentally, and dd1 has a fairly scottish name too!

That's a lovely name. I haven't heard of the books with the same name, so I just think it is beautiful.
My DD is named after her great grandmother too it just 'feels' a nice link IYSWIM.

MrsMattie · 26/02/2009 21:42

I think it's gorgeous.

Mummyfor3 · 26/02/2009 21:43

How about Morag Katie? Just to avoid the obvious book reference?

Although, it is a lovely series of books, so you could really just not let it bother you .

Both lovely names.

diedandgonetodevon · 26/02/2009 21:44

I've not heard of the books and think it's a lovely name. Morag especially

snooks · 26/02/2009 21:44

It is a lovely name - I haven't heard of the books either. dd3 has her great-nanna's name as a second name - Lois - I love the fact that there is 90 years between their births and it sort of 'brings them together' IYSWIM.

shonaspurtle · 26/02/2009 21:47

No, it's fine. Are you actually going to use both names iyswim (ie call her Katie Morag like in the book, rather than Katie who happens to have M as a middle name?)

She'll be chuffed to bits when she's old enough to read the books!

GossipMonger · 26/02/2009 21:47

too twee for me but then I know the books

Katherine Rosie Morag

Katie Emily Morag

Three names sound nice!

EsmeWeatherwax · 26/02/2009 21:50

Thank you for your positive reactions! Was expecting a roasting! Shona, I'd be tempted to call her Katie Morag most of the time I think, I just love the sound of the names together.

I think it is lovely if you are just going to call her Katie. If you are actually goingto stand in Tescos shouting "Katie Morag put those sweets back" then I personally would be snorting into my basket.

ShowOfHands · 26/02/2009 21:52

Oh I love it.

And the books too.

Do it. Gwan.

EsmeWeatherwax · 26/02/2009 21:56

Lol...good point Pagwatch.

dancingqueeen · 26/02/2009 22:51

I think its lovely

dizzydixies · 26/02/2009 22:53

lovely and I'm scottish - wouldnt' flame you at all

RachieB · 26/02/2009 23:02

nice that you wish to use both g.grans names

but i dont like them together ,sorry

and ive never heard of the books lol

KingCanuteIAm · 26/02/2009 23:13

I know the books well

I love the name, not twee for me - as others have said if you intend to call her Katie rather than Katie Morag (otherwise it is a it much - but then I don't like double first names!)

Also, the people she grows up with are unlikley to make the association with the book.

Wolfcub · 26/02/2009 23:20

i think it's really nice - but I'm not aware of the books so i have no preconceptions

GossipMonger · 27/02/2009 13:37
