Can I have your thoughts on Clementine, Charlotte, Anna

My favourite is Clementine, but I don't know about the nicknames

DH likes Charlotte, nn 'Charlie' - I don't like Charlie but quite like Lottie.

We both like Anna - it just seems a little common (as in often used) in comparison with my other DC's slightly unusual names. Actually, so does Charlotte for that matter.

Boys name choice is Theodore/Teddy (I think)

Thanks kerala1 - do you have any other ideas for me? Feeling a bit stuck.

I want to like Clementine but I just don't. I like the style of it iykwim though.

Charlotte is nice but v. popular, I love Lottie.

I love Annie and Anna.

What about Annabel or Christabel?

SalmonFromTheLiffey · 22/02/2009 12:04

What about Thaddy short for Thaddeus for a boy (instead of Theo). I think Theo is more common than Anna if you are worried about popularity. For children anyway.

Astrophe · 22/02/2009 12:06

Pretty sorted with Teddy I think - its not v popular where we live

The 'bel' ending names - I dunno, they just don't really click for me.

Thaddy!

Thorry, no

SalmonFromTheLiffey · 22/02/2009 12:22

Ok, but Theo is not unusual.....

wotulookinat · 22/02/2009 13:24

I have a nephew called Teddy, and I don't like it.

Astrophe · 23/02/2009 00:39

Fine fine, but I'm not bothered about boys names - only mentioned it to give you an idea of what we like. I need help with girls names...please!!!

Charlotte is very well used. I don't think Anna is used much. Clementine - Sorry I don't like it. I would'nt use Charlotte BTW too boring.

Love teddy short for Edward or as name on its own but not Theodore (chipmunks).

upagumtree · 23/02/2009 00:45

My vote goes to...Anna...but maybe i'm just biased

susiey · 23/02/2009 09:39

we really liked the name Anna but wanted to call our daughter something a bit longer
so we called our dd Annalise and she gets called Anna most of the time

There are not that many Annas around and its so easy to write and spell for my dd

MrsMattie · 23/02/2009 09:40

Anna is by far the nicest.

castille · 23/02/2009 09:51

I love Clementine. Don't like Charlotte much but love Lottie as an abbreviation.

Astrophe · 23/02/2009 23:45

Ok, so now I really don't know. Thanks for nothing everyone

Maybe I will start an 'ideas please' thread...

Oh thank god

A baby name thread where I don't have to be studiedly self-restrained or blatantly take the piss

I like all your choices. They are fab. My favourite is Clementine too. Clemmy is the nickname. Tis lovely

Astrophe · 23/02/2009 23:57

Tnhanks, but I'm not sure about Clemmy. Its looks fine written, but when said out loud sounds like 'Clammy'...and I can't seem to get beyond that!

Glad you like them though -please will you go to my new thread asking for more ideas?

I like Anna most.

BlueChampagne · 24/02/2009 14:53

Rosanna?

Polony · 01/03/2009 14:25

Anna and Clementine are both names I have thought of for our baby if its a girl. Clementine I loved after seeing Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind years ago (I know that character was a bit complicated but she made that name come alive as a contemporary name - and when you say the whole name its delicious to speak so why shorten it? My name is easily shortened but never, ever has been) and DP liked it too...I have mentioned to a few people and got exactly the same response as you're getting. I'm starting to accept that a lot of the names I like others don't, but I feel encouraged to put Clementine back on our list after reading this thread.

Anna - I agree with others, its just a lovely lovely name and not all over the place right now. I like Charlotte very much but am put off by its popularity (not that that should put you off).

ceeceeanne · 01/03/2009 17:43

I love Clementine and if I use it I'd shorten it to Emmie. Apparently Clems means balls in north east!!

missymoo2411 · 01/03/2009 19:17

i agree with cee cee shorten to emmie i like anna 2 also emmeline

Pollyanna · 01/03/2009 19:21

I love Clementine and Clemmie.

I also really like Anna.

Annabel87 · 12/03/2009 01:14

My name is Annabel and I love it. I never had it shortened to Annie or Anna or Bell. If you introduce yourself as Annabel and you make sure family calls her Annabel it won't get shortened. I only met one other Annabel my whole life ( and I am 21 ) and it was in a girls restroom at a six flags =) Her mom called out" Annabel!" and I was in shock. I always got so many compliments on my name and I loved not ever having anyone else in my class named Annabel, it made me stand out. It's very classic and timeless, something that sounds pretty when you are four or eighty four.

nooka · 12/03/2009 04:11

Tina could be another Clementine shortening, but names don't have to be shortened (mine has only ever been by close family). Or what about Clemency (one of my middle names) probably less likely to be shortened as it's shorter to start with Surely the shortening is Clemmie in any case (looks nicer even though it sounds the same)?

I think Anna is quite classy, and would be fine with Elijah and Lucia (which pronunciation do you use? I have a cousin Loo-chee-ah). Alternately you could use a longer form, like Anastasia, Annabel/Annabella, Anika, Marianna, Susannah, Rosanna etc

Charlotte is going through a very popular phase (especially Lottie) and given that your other two children have less usual names perhaps isn't the best choice.

Elijah is particularly fabulous - I had a duck called Elijah once - he was part of my mother's Easter project (she was a RS teacher). Theo is lovely too (my brother's name).

Astrophe · 12/03/2009 04:34

LOL at your Duck Elijah!

The issue with shortening, Nooka and Anabel, is that we live in Australia...you may or may not know that Australians shorten everything...bickies, sunnies, cozzies, mozzies, jarmies...as well as names...Pete, Bazza, Jimmy, Jonno, Lulu, Katie, etc etc!

But you are right, Clemmie looks nicer than Clemmy. Shall keep pondering...
