Come and indulge me - 2009 has been a shocker thus far and I need to think about lovely fluffy things like what to call dc2 :o)

dc2 due mid-September, 10+1 today

I have a dd, Lucy. Surname sounds a bit like Chaplin.

What shall I call her sibling? It will probably be something fairly traditional as dh has conservative tastes. FIL has already said he'd like a grandson called Thomas - I like Thomas but we have friends with Thomases so it's probably a non-starter. This is the only suggestion anyone has made so far.

I have no idea where to start! I just hope I'm not getting ahead of myself.. it's two weeks before I have my dating scan.

I'm on medication for HG, dh currently in hospital, both our jobs are at risk of redundancy. I want to think about nice things for a while

Don't be daft Anna, you will be the uber-cool, swish and elegant Stepmother, I am sure.

Lizzylou · 19/02/2009 16:36

step-grandmother

TigerFeet · 19/02/2009 16:37

Oooh a step MIL - the possibilities for being evil are endless

Lots of lovely names - unfortunately all my faves would probably be vetoed by ultra conservative dh. Elodie and Flora are lovely but not his cup of tea at all.

I have cousins named Abigail and Gregory so they're out. My sister is Eleanor (known as Ellie) so they are out too - a shame really as I love Eleanor. I was 17 when she was born and helped name her - should have kept it to myself! DD's muddle name is Ellen after my late Gran.

BonsoirAnna you may have inspired me inadvertantly - Anna is lovely and a name that dh may well go for

Hmmm, Isobel/Isabel/Isabelle/Isabella ???

I likey!

Anna is lovely (one of DD3's middle names)
Grace (the other middle name)
Erin
Eva (v popular though)
Poppy
Phoebe
Megan
Molly

I'm calling my next DD Elodie or Isabella

TigerFeet · 19/02/2009 16:51

We know a Grace and an Erin. I like Poppy and also Daisy but iirc dh vetoed flower names as being OK for little girls but odd on grownups. Phoebe and Megan - not sure dh would like. Molly, yes perhaps.

I've just been discussing Aoife on another thread, a name I love, but unsure about using Gaelic names in rural England (even though my maternal grandparents were Irish, my Mum was born in England). Easily anglicised to Eve/Eva/Evie though. Eve Margaret?

Annabel?

I like Isabel(la) too

TigerFeet · 19/02/2009 16:53

FUnnily enough Erin was a possibility for my dsis but my dad vetoed it because of the Waltons . Shame really, if dsis had been Erin I could have had Eleanor for dc2.

It's all getting a bit girly isn't it?

I keep coming back to Joseph. Joe. I remember suggesting Jacob to dh when we were expecting dd but he didn't like it.

Robert is nice for a boy, and underused imo.

Edward was on my list, as was tomas.

Dominic?

As for girls, Imogen is great.

Love Beatrice, but maybe becoming a bit popular?

Also like Katharine and Elisabeth

TigerFeet · 19/02/2009 17:22

I like Beatrice, dh doesn't

Katharine is incredibly similar to my name

Not sure about Dominic tbh. I had a dodgy customer called Dominic once and we called him Demonic behind his back.

Robert.. happy to use it as a middle name (family reasons) but don't like it enough for a first name.

hmm, will have a think.

Cecily - love this but dh vetoed (used it as middle name, though)
Verity - one of my favourite names, but dh vetoed.

Penelope and Caroline both very underused, imo.

dh & I toyed with David for a boy. Also Edmund instead of Edward?

Lizzylou · 19/02/2009 17:35

Caroline is a wonderful name, destined for greatness, imo

I like Edmund and also Edwin

BonsoirAnna · 19/02/2009 17:55

Cicely is much prettier than Cecily which is too close to Cecil.

silverfrog · 19/02/2009 18:03

ah, but i have an uncle cecil, of whom i am very fond, and also grew up off the coast of Sicily

cecily wins every time

BonsoirAnna · 19/02/2009 18:12

I also have an uncle Cecil but it is pronounced Sissel.. as in Sicily

George,Daniel,AlexanderAmelie,Constance (connie)Eleanor

Lizzylou · 19/02/2009 18:38

Daniel is lovely (have a DB called Daniel, otherwise I'd have chosen it).

Cicely and Cecily are lovely (now now girls!)

Swedes · 19/02/2009 20:19

Celia is nice.
Anna is a great name (it's my middle name) but Lucy sounds better with Anne, doesn't it? Three names of two syllables sounds all wrong, I think.
