Can't make up our mind - Edward or Cameron?

Or something else??
We already have a Leo and DS2 is due in April. He has been nominally named Edward (Ed/Teddy/Eddie etc) for a while now, but now we're not too sure.
Any thoughts/opinions would be gatefully received.
We are Australian, so cultural significance is irrelevant as far as I can see.
Robert would be middle name regardless of first name.

Edmund.

My second recommendation for that name today

Like both yours too...

MrsMattie · 18/02/2009 15:07

They're quite different names. Cameron is more modern and 'surnma-ey'. Edward very traditional. neither as nice as leo, in all honesty Sorry!

MrsMattie · 18/02/2009 15:07

'surname-ey', sorry

nkf · 18/02/2009 15:07

Edward.

Bubbaluv · 18/02/2009 15:09

I totally agree MrsMattie. Have spent my whole pregnancy searching in vain for a name I love like I loved Leo.
TFM, I do like Edmund, but DH really really doesn't like it

Oh definitely Edward!
DS2 is an Edward (Teddy) and it was a close call between that and Leo right up until he was born, so we must have similar taste in names!

Cameron sounds a bit (dare I say it) chavvy to me

TheFallenMadonna · 18/02/2009 15:11

Alastair
Patrick
Alec

I'm a bit rubbish with names really. We spent very little time going over them for our two. We just loved the ones we used from the off.

Bubbaluv · 18/02/2009 15:13

2.4, I really want to hear opinions and I promise not to ask for them and then flounce when I get them!

I don't like either, but Cameron is very popular choice ime. I much
prefer Edgar.

Bubbaluv · 18/02/2009 15:16

You guys are pretty spot-on in terms of the kinds of names I like! Alistair was right at the top of the list, but a cousin has just had a boy and lo-and-behold...Alisdair!

Edward - classic and good for a male of all ages.

Cameron doesn't do it for me - it's too 'now' and it is more common as a girls name round these parts...

TheFallenMadonna · 18/02/2009 15:17

Damn!

DD would have been Alastair...

2pt4kids · 18/02/2009 15:18

You could have Theodore and still shorten it to Teddy?

How about

Patrick
Oliver
Gabriel
Nathanial (Nate)?

Bubbaluv · 18/02/2009 15:19

I like Patrick too, but our surname is a word, so Pat xxxx make me think of someone patting a xxxxx.
Edgar sounds particularly bad with an Australian accent I'm afraid. Our accents are very mild, but I have to always test it out in a Steve Erwin type accent in case it makes my skin crawl.

I like Theodore, but then I'd have Theo and Leo

2pt4kids · 18/02/2009 15:21

Oh yes

Bubbaluv · 18/02/2009 15:23

Wow - had never thought of Cameron as a "now" type name.
I guess I thought of Edward as an oldie English type name, and Cameron as an oldie Scottish name. I guess it's the Diaz factor that has made it trendy and feminised it?

yellowflowers · 18/02/2009 17:01

I love Edward- so many variations too - Ed, Ned, Ted, Woody, Eddie

wideratthehips · 18/02/2009 17:09

shouldn't have read this thread!

we have a cameron, i always thought it sounded rather handsome and steady. disappointed to hear that it is considered 'chavvy' and now.

we used it because of the scottish connection

loobylu3 · 18/02/2009 17:20

Prefer Edward personally. Not overly keen on Cameron.

notsoteenagemum · 18/02/2009 17:26

Why don't you have Robert as the first name, I think Robert Edward sound better than Edward Robert. Not sure about Cameron can't help thinking of David.

Bubbaluv · 18/02/2009 17:30

Robert is Dh's name and I just can't cope with 2 of them - I already call Dh by DS's name vice-versa as well as throwing the dog's name about a bit from time to time. It would be too much for my poor brain.
I also say "good dog" to DS from time to time

jellybeans · 18/02/2009 21:32

Cameron is nicer IMO.

Finona · 18/02/2009 22:15

Cameron is not chavvy - and no I don't have one
It's very common in Scotland to call a male child after a surname i.e. Cameron, Fraser, and also as surnames are often placenames, you therefore get Moray, Angus etc.
Slight hijack but hearing a good Scottish name called chavvy makes me
Of your two, I prefer Cameron.

angrypixie · 18/02/2009 22:29

We have a Teddy - scrumptious name
