DP and I both love the name Charlie (but not Charles). I know it's very popular in the UK ATM but it's not here and we are very unlikely to ever move to the UK.

So, do you think it's a tad babyish?

No. Not at all.

I think it is a bit babyish - I always think of a the name as an adult - think Charlie xxx - lawyer. Charlie xxx - office manager. I always think it's nice to give them a grown up names so they can choose as an adult. Charlie is very cute though.

I wanted Charlie...but have only had DDs and dh didn't like it for a girl, not babyish at all!

Takver · 16/02/2009 19:26

No, not at all, think of Bonny Prince Charlie. I can very easily visualise a lawyer Charlie (or indeed a farmer Charlie if you prefer). I have known it be shortened to Chas, but I think that is cool too (maybe because I knew a very handsome Chas ).

My DS is Charlie... not babyish at all.
Although he is Charles on his birth certificate. I was not keen on it at all but DP would not budge, he would not have an abreviation on his cert.
Nowadays, when 'charles' flashes up in the doctors, I feel dead proud, i really like it.
Think about what you would like to see on his Oxford application lol

ScummyMummy · 16/02/2009 19:51

No. I like it a lot. Agree Charles is not so good.

Charlie Sheen, Charlie Chaplin... I think it crosses all age divides. I know plenty of adult Charlies. But I do prefer formal names for birth certificates. Just so the child has the option.

I have a long name and was always known by an abbreviation in early childhood. But as I got older and particularly when I started going to job interviews I was glad of the formal name to introduce myself by.

I think is lovely, if had had a boy would have used it myself

scrambledhead · 16/02/2009 20:12

Brilliant name for young and old. Definitely Charlie not Charles.

CrackerNut · 16/02/2009 20:15

I don't think it is babyish at all, I love it.

NorktasticNinja · 16/02/2009 21:08

Blimey, I hadn't expected so much positivity

It seems Charlie can stay at the top of the list. Yay.

I love it, it is my ds name.

'Charlie' on birth certificate because I really don't like Charles, sounds far too posh for us!

Think the name sounds chubby, cheeky and cute!
