Lexie - opinions please

Thinking of using this for our little girl, but my parents say it should be a nickname for Alexandra.
Not 100% decided.

Is Lexie fine to use on its own do you think?
What are your overall impressions of the name too.

IMHO i would have Alexandra and then shorten it to Lexie.

but the word chav was designed for a mother at school and she has just named her daughter Lexie. it has put me off somewhat which is a shame as i had always liked it.

i like it actually, but I know a little lexie. it is short for Alex, but gets used ALL the time, so may as well just have been lexie

I know a couple that have used it for their dd as a name in its own right .. I also know someone that has used it for a nickname for an Alexia. You could also use it as a nickname for Alexa.

Think beyond a cute little girl. Can you imagine a Financial Controller called Lexie?

I'd stick to Alexandra for her Birth Certificate, but make sure everyone knows that she is to be known as Lexie.

Agree it's a nickname rather than a name. Alexandra is a really beautiful, elegant, stylish name and it would be such a shame not to use that with Lexie as a cute nickname IMO

I agree that Lexie is a great name for a little girl, but perhaps not so great for a grown-up woman who wants to be taken seriously. Alex/Alexa/Alexandra, with Lexie as a nickname, would give her more options.

(My dd2 is Alix, nicknamed Lixy!)

It's quite a nice nickname but it isn't a real name. Your parents are right. If you want impressions - well Alexandra known as Lexie could be a doctor, journalist, retail manager or whatever. Lexie-no-it-isn't-short-for-anything-thats-my-real-name will be in a BAD girl band! Plus - when she's 80 and staggering round do you really think 'Lexie' will suit her?
