Bruno is fab.

sorry SLIGHT mental image of old curly perm Bruno from fame, but if i knew your ds i would soon have a mental image of him instead

belgo · 08/02/2009 08:12

Bruno is a good name. What about Marco?

LynetteScavo · 08/02/2009 08:17

I love it!

DontSwimInTheLiffey · 08/02/2009 09:51

Don't worry about the so-called dog connection.

I have a theory that people use names they love but aren't quite brave enough to use for their children yet

Not because the names are ludicrous but because they haven't quite come back into fashion yet.

Some of my favourite names come into this category, Bruno, Bruce, Polly, Sadie, Maggie..

There are lots of dogs and people called Molly and Max too.

There is obviously overlap between dogs names and humans names. The ONLY names NOT considered for dogs are names that are so serious and stuffy and 'dull' eg Paul or John or Ruth (actually, I don't mind those names, but you see my point)

Nobody calls their dogs Ruth and Paul because they're not quirky enough.

Love it.

LuLuBai · 08/02/2009 10:12

Liffey I have known cats called Steve, Alan and Desmond (all seperately). (Sorry - off topic).

lunavix · 08/02/2009 10:17

God no

DontSwimInTheLiffey · 08/02/2009 10:19

Wow, ironic cat owners

But that just proves (imo) that you can call your son Rex or Bruno or Barnaby if you want to!

LuLuBai · 08/02/2009 10:28

I think Steve is an inspired name for a cat. I just wish I had thought of it first. (Just learnt in the _chat topic that one of my cats' names is slang for penis )

I have once met a dog called Bruno, but I have also met a very cool bloke called Bruno so I think it works for either. Rex never did Mr Harrison any harm. And Barnaby is adorable on a little boy and quirky and Dickensian on an adult.

MrsMattie · 08/02/2009 10:41

Really not nice.

Katonahottinroof · 08/02/2009 13:39

First instinct was NO but actually thinking more about it it's ok.
It's quite a strong sounding name (not sure if that's because it reminds me of Frank Bruno) so if your DS is likely to be skinny and weedy (like mine bless 'im) I wouldn't use it.

xx

helpivegottogivebirth · 08/02/2009 13:50

I like it
In the same vain as Milo, Hugo, Mungo.

I suggested it the other day - unfortunately my husband said no.

Frasersmum123 · 08/02/2009 17:03

My step-cousin's name - Love it!

DontSwimInTheLiffey · 08/02/2009 18:04

helpivegottogivebirth your screenname makes me laugh and reminds me of me! I used to have to take painkillers before a leg wax, I had NO idea how I was going to get through a birth.

Wigglesworth · 08/02/2009 18:19

It's a dogs name, makes me think of boxer dogs with slobbery jowells.

WorzselMummage · 08/02/2009 18:25

I once met a Dog called Simon and my dogs called Hugo so i dont think there is any such thing as a Dogs name but i dont like Bruno though atall sorry, its just trying a bit too hard.

MrsPurple · 08/02/2009 18:40

I knew a french man once once called Bruno. Had a rabbit called Harry and still love the name now.

Friend had a cat called Dave.

It's whatever floats your boat.

littleoldme · 08/02/2009 18:42

Sorry - I just think of Bruno Brookes...

ScummyMummy · 08/02/2009 18:43

All the Brunos I know of are either Portuguese or very posh UKers or canine. I have not known of a nasty one, however, and therefore have a soft spot for the name.

Thunderduck · 08/02/2009 19:32

I don't like it at all.

DontSwimInTheLiffey · 08/02/2009 20:17

I knew a Bruno. Sur name Niccholi. He was Irish. Yeah that sounds like a joke.

yellowflowers · 09/02/2009 18:43

I love it - such a shame DH doesn't. Makes me think of Bruno Brookes...

Totally normal name in much of eastern europe and germany and italy too, as is the girl's version Bruna

PeppermintPatty · 09/02/2009 20:11

There is a little boy called Bruno at DDs nursery. At first I thought the 'oh thats a dogs name' but it's grown on me and now I like it.

ReginaFalangi · 10/02/2009 11:16

Not keen at all , sorry.

In France, Bruno is a very old-fashion name. Unfortunately, it doesn't belong to the list of names which have been resurrected.

I'd say it would be just as ..ahem...surprising as a baby called Keith over here. (no offence to Babies called Keith )

oysterpots · 10/02/2009 14:22

I love it, think it's great.

It was on my list, along with Rex and Spike, so obviously there is a type. DS doesn't have any of those names now though.

Changer - is your DD called Dandelion?
