Orlando?

I love the name, DH isn't sure, but just wondering how it was likely to be shortened?

A good name, or too pretentious?

Too pretentious but you might get away with it if people think you're just a big fan of Mr Bloom. It'll get shortened to Orly, I would think.

I love it, reminds me of Orlando the Marmalade Cat (children's story). I guess it depends where you live and your peer group as to whether it's too pretentious.
My friends would love it.

I had an uncle Orlando (he was italian) always known as Lando. Which I think is a nice name on it's own.

Don't be put off! It's really nice. Is a literary name imo, and the Orlando Bloom connection is not too bad. Orly seems to be the nn which is nice too.

A friend of DH's is called Orlando - and he's pretty cool.

I also like it - it sounds masculine and cool and is quite unique! Could be shortened to Orly or Ollie.

I'd certainly rather be called Orlando than Jack or Luke etc.

I like the sound of it, but yes it is poncey. And I'm not sure about saddling a child with the gender-changing connotations of the Virginia Woolf novel. Loved the film though...

If you really love the name, you should go for it, no matter what anyone else thinks. Just my opinion.

I like it...I like the Marmaled Cat (but have never got to the end of those books,; they have so many words!)but people might think he was concieved on holiday....

I love it. It was on my list, but was vetoed by DH. I don't know who Orlando Bloom is, but wasn't there a Lando in The Empire Strikes Back? (Am going back many years there...)
