and I was introduced to him and thought 'oh, that's a nice name, how classic, how sensible'

Then I saw the label on his peg

Alyxandyr

I nearly fell over

That's just krewell

FAQtothefuture · 27/01/2009 14:38

sounds like an Eastern European spellng to me - I know Alexandyr is quite common over there.

MrsBadger · 27/01/2009 14:40

actually it wasn't an Alexander variant at all (I thought it would be cruel and potentially too googlable, cf Storm Findlay-Cooper), but was a similar classic name butchered in a similar way

There's an Alexszander at DD3s nursery - just too many extra letters in there for me!

(Not from Eastern Europe either!)

Sidge · 27/01/2009 14:40

Oh you mean like Jaiymes or Willeeyum?

BoysAreLikeDogs · 27/01/2009 14:42

Or Dayyvid ?

Allfy?

I know - Ollyver

BoysAreLikeDogs · 27/01/2009 14:43

oooh Nathan with a silent 'k'

BlueSapphire77 · 27/01/2009 14:49

I know a kid called carraden

Anyone else lol

He's my DD's cousin and the only person i have heard of with that name

cory · 27/01/2009 19:06

You are sure he doesn't have foreign ancestry. Dd has an unusual spelling of her name, but that is because at home we pronounce it in Swedish.

MrsY · 27/01/2009 22:40

MrsBadger - what's the Storm Findlay-Cooper reference?

thumbwitch · 27/01/2009 22:42

He3nry perhaps? (or is it Henr3y, can't quite remember...)

seeker · 27/01/2009 22:46

Dayyvid is a character from the Archers. And don't forget Riccccckkkayyyyyyyyyyyyyeh! from Eastenders!

McDreamy · 27/01/2009 22:47

Nearly as good as Feebee the little girl in DD's swiming class!

boccadellaverita · 27/01/2009 22:48

Thumbwitch - It's Hen3ry. I always think of dear, dear Hen3ry on threads where people want to make names more interesting by, ahem, adjusting the spelling.

thumbwitch · 27/01/2009 22:50

ta Bocca - I just tried googling it as He3nry and got LOADS of results - mostly in German, bizarrely!

RachieB · 27/01/2009 23:04

pmsl @ Feebee!!!!

EachPeachPearMum · 27/01/2009 23:09

Storm Findlay-cooper is the name used on cash's name tapes for advertising purposes.

MrsY · 28/01/2009 06:13

Oh - 'cos her mum was a matron at my school, and she was a few years below me...

I've not seen the name tapes, and I couldn't work out what cf meant!!!!

And seriously - Hen3ry? WTF is that about?

MrsBadger · 28/01/2009 08:51

although I notice Cash's are now using Margaret Burrows instead of Storm

and cf is a Latin tag (like eg or etc) that means 'see also'

troutpout · 28/01/2009 08:55

lol @ elsie

boccadellaverita · 28/01/2009 13:56

Mrs Y - Sorry, didn't mean to exclude anyone from the joke. Hen3ry is from a Tom Lehrer joke, in the introduction to one of his songs, about idiosyncratic spelling of names:

" a fellow I used to know whose name was Henry, only to give you an idea of what an individualist he was he spelt it hen3ry. The 3 was silent, you see."

thumbwitch · 28/01/2009 14:15

oh I do love that song! it is in my top 3 Tom Lehrer songs.
