Cariana.

Pronounced "Carry-aah-na".

Means "Pretty, cute".

I'm undecided, so a few opinions - positive and negative would help

I quite like it

But it reminds me of my neices name Carrie Ann

wotulookinat · 25/01/2009 13:05

It's quite nice. It maybe sounds a bit odd, like it should be Carrie-Anna or something, but it's nice.

2cats2many · 25/01/2009 13:06

Its OK. I don't love it, but it doesn't sound too wacko.

RachePache · 25/01/2009 16:25

Sounds made up to me. There are prettier names, equally flowery if you like flowery, that are nicer.

My niece has Cara as a middle name (Dad is into all things Italian).

NotADragonOfCockALeekieSoup · 25/01/2009 16:26

I don't know. I can't put my finger on why but it's not working for me. I don't hate it but nor do I love it.

SheWillBeLoved · 25/01/2009 16:33

RachePche - I didn't think it was flowery

I came across Caira, and then Cariana wasn't far behind it. Caught my eye. Never heard it before and I think it's meaning is lovely

ComeWhineWithMe · 25/01/2009 16:36

It reminds me of poltergeist

"Stay away from the light Carrie Ann "

Sorry.

RachePache · 25/01/2009 16:38

Cara means dear or darling (cara mia = my darling in Italian) - Cariana seems an extension of that.

To me it's someone taking a perfectly nice name (=Marianna) and fiddling with it to make it "unique"/cre8tive

If you want pretty/cute how about Mignonne (French)?

SheWillBeLoved · 25/01/2009 16:42

It isn't pronounced the same as say Marianna though, there is no 'Anna' in it when it's pronounced correctly.

Keep any other suggestions/comments coming though

I would choose Cara or Carrie before Cariana- just doesn't look right to me- a bit made up, although sounds like you found it in a baby names book/website- just never heard it before.

RachePache · 25/01/2009 17:30

SheWillBe Loved I suppose with an English accent they would sound different . I've a Scots accent so they sounds the same to me

mysterymoniker · 25/01/2009 17:36

cariana up the khyber

PixieMoon · 25/01/2009 17:48

It reminds me of the Maori folk song Pokarekare Ana (which sounds like 'po-karri-karri-aah-na). It's a pretty song. Weird name though, not my cup of tea.

RachePache · 25/01/2009 17:55

Friend of a friend's DD is Keana (pronounced Kee-AAH-nah) "like Keanu but a female version". I'll admit thinking it was a bit Footballers' Wives, and I think Cariana is similar tbh.

boccadellaverita · 25/01/2009 17:58

It doesn't float my boat but, if it's your favourite name, trust your instincts.

artichokes · 25/01/2009 18:12

Ariana = lovely
but IMO adding the C makes it sound made-up and try-hard.

Frasersmum123 · 25/01/2009 18:22

I think its pretty but not my cup of tea.

RachieB · 25/01/2009 18:55

I prefer Arianna or Cara

BabyBaby123 · 25/01/2009 19:04

it's not great tbh

kittywise · 25/01/2009 19:06

It looks made up. I've heard worse. Would prefer carrie or anna.

LostVagueness · 26/01/2009 13:29

Sounds like a helpful kitchen device to me. The sort of thing you might find in the BettaWare catalogue.

'The Carry Anna, The perfect way to store your kitchen utensils. Only £6.99 from BettaWare'

Or am I being too harsh?

MadameCastafiore · 26/01/2009 13:31

Bleugh - did you make that one up yourself?

lljkk · 26/01/2009 13:31

I would pronounce it wrong first time I read it. I don't mind made up names, and it does sound very pretty... you could write it 'Carrie Anna', hyphenated if need be, and people would find it easier to say & spell it right.

Ashantai · 26/01/2009 17:07

I think its pretty

Cant be doing with the snobbery of "made up names" If you like it, go for it, i've heard a whole lot worse

snowleopard · 26/01/2009 17:10

It's quite nice - she'll get called Carrie though - if you like that, go for it.

But it does vaguely remind me of when I worked with someone who named his baby "Victoriana"
