Not for me

tattycoram · 24/01/2009 20:14

Not keen, sounds like American for sorry. How about Sadie or Sukey?

naswm · 24/01/2009 20:16

so pronounced Sari?

Kwini · 24/01/2009 20:31

Yes

Also thinking of "Roux"...

naswm · 24/01/2009 20:38

I prefer Roux but dont dislike Sarie

mrsgboring · 24/01/2009 20:45

Is there some reasoning behind these names? You know that sari is a frock and roux is a method of making white sauce, named after a chef, don't you?

bananapaddlepop · 24/01/2009 20:47

my old boss was a saree and she was lovely

suwoo · 24/01/2009 20:47

I know one, but it is pronounced 'sair ree'. I quite like it pronounced that way.

Kwini · 24/01/2009 20:49

Hi MrsGB - Sarie is an old Afrikaans name (although I like the sari connection, as I have a bit of a thing for Indai), as is Roux (which means 'red').

nkf · 24/01/2009 20:50

Where's it from? It looks made up to me.

naswm · 24/01/2009 20:51

Would you use any other names Kwimi? To follow?

Tommy · 24/01/2009 20:52

We had a cat called Sari - if that helps

mrsgboring · 24/01/2009 21:00

Kwini they are lovely sounding names in themselves, but if your DD is growing up here, I think the associations I made would be uppermost in most people's minds.

I prefer Sarie to Roux, since, as you say, the sari connection is a pretty one (whereas Roux will have lots of people mentally straight back in a domestic science lesson). She would also get people thinking it was "Roo" or "Rue" which personally I would dislike.

Bluestocking · 24/01/2009 21:04

Bechamel is nice, as is Bearnaise.

Kwini · 24/01/2009 21:14

May well use other names, naswm - possibly a hyphenation.

DD may or may not grow up here - we are quite an international family! - so we're not overly concerned about British associations. There are plenty of English names that would raise eyebrows in other countries, after all

Very clever, Bluestocking - well done!

Sarie sounds like an American saying sorry.

Roux is just a nothing name imo - pretty awful choices tbh

RiaParkinson · 24/01/2009 21:17

Divine

Really a beautiful name

If there is an association with Sari then IMO it is only a good one

i would use it were I lucky enough to get a girl x

naswm · 24/01/2009 21:17

Kwini - go with what you like best. Take no notice of others.

Kwimi is a lovely name btw!

do you have any other DC?

Kwini · 24/01/2009 21:18

Thanks, Ria! Lovely to have a nice response for a change

Kwini · 24/01/2009 21:20

No other children, naswm. Fortunately we've already decided on a really lovely boy's name, so it's just girls we're struggling with now...

Don't worry, am not remotely fussed by the clever clogs on here!

Kwini I name my boys names that people at at first and then later say they love them

a bit of culture is too much for some
