Expecting DS2 in May and am just not sure about a name. I really like Joel, though. I've only ever met one - very cool and gorgeous - and I think it's got groove to it! What do you think?

Other possibilities are:
Francis
Henry
Hamish
Lucas

(I also quite like Noel but DH says no way as everyone would pronouce it as in the Christmas 'noWell'. Fair enough)

(Y'know, I'm wondering if we all know the same Joel - attractive, cool but in a friendly way, probably about 33yrs now... He's obviously gone through life giving a good impression )

I like Joel best out of your list. Like it a lot actually...might even pinch it

purpleduck · 20/01/2009 20:43

Love it
Love it
Love it

Tis my ds's middle name....because when I was PG, I watched alot of Home and Away, and LOVED the Joel in it. He was very manly in a gorgeous/caring/sensitive way.

Hassled · 20/01/2009 20:44

Joels are all cool and know how to surf. And are smily and nice. All in all - a top name

joelsmumhaschangedhername · 20/01/2009 20:47

[purrs]

Joel is the greatest name in the history of the universe, solar system and cosmos.

Apart from Barack of course

purpleduck · 20/01/2009 21:06

yeah but...on the Barack documentary thing, it said he used to go by "Barry".

Which kinds takes the glamour out of it...don'tche think?

MrsMattie · 20/01/2009 21:07

Love Joel. By far the nicest name on your list.

carmenelectra · 20/01/2009 21:09

jOEL IS LOVELY. Lucas even nicer though!

shubiedoo · 20/01/2009 21:11

I like Joel too, it's 80s so a bit retro. Our third is going to be a Claire, similar age I think.

Botbot · 10/02/2009 21:16

My dp is a Joel. He gets called 'Moley' too.

Thunderduck · 10/02/2009 21:31

I love Joel and Hamish.

Tinker · 10/02/2009 21:33

Like Joel but really, really don't like Noel. Odd how one letter makes all teh difference (and 2 famous but yucky Noels)

tootiredtothink · 10/02/2009 21:34

Joel is fab - in fact I want a baby just so I can use it !

Love Hamish too but it has to be Joel.

bronze · 10/02/2009 21:35

Its top of DHS list
I like it but not as much as my favourite actually more because our surname ends in el too

Wigglesworth · 10/02/2009 21:42

Boy lived next door to me was called Joel, thought it was weird at time, though this was over 20 years ago. I actually think it's quite nice now though.

Janni · 10/02/2009 21:45

My 12 year old son is Joel and it is still my favourite boys name. I'm surprised it hasn't become more popular yet. He sometimes has to spell it out for older people - they hear it as John or Giles, but other than that I'm still really happy we chose it.

LuLuBai · 11/02/2009 07:39

I've known a few - mostly French or American. Only one English. They have generally been pretty cool, good looking, charming. I have really good associations of the name and I love the way it sounds too.

Much better name than Noel. Nice idea for a Christmas baby but I will always think of the Gallagher brothers being, well, twats. Or Mr Edmonds being...errr a knitted jumper and beard wearer.

Your other names are good though. Hamish especiallly.

Lizzylou · 11/02/2009 07:42

Lovely name, DS1's best friend is Joel (almost 5yrs old) and a neigbour has just had a baby boy called Joel.

Ashantai · 11/02/2009 22:56

Francis, Hamish or Lucas. Henry and Joel are both quite popular around here.

LuLuBai · 12/02/2009 06:42

Califrau is right. Sounds odd to start middle name with last letter of first name.

And just wanted to add that I wasn't quite sure about Francis but met a toddler called Frankie yesterday who was such a scrumptious bundle of boy that I completely changed my mind about the name. Just shows how children make a name their own (I'd thought Frankie was a 1960s East End gangster name before - now it is a tousle haired little tearaway).
