Completely hypothetical as we're not ttc for another 8 months or so. I really like it and DP thinks it's ok.

Merrin is nice.

thisisyesterday · 10/01/2009 21:20

ooh i like it

CharCharGabor · 10/01/2009 21:23

Isobel not so good? I've been musing over it for a few days but couldn't think of anything that goes with it.

Would prefer Merryn Isabel...just looks nicer...

CharCharGabor · 10/01/2009 21:30

hmmm, one to think about. I'm not normally keen on 'y's in names.

Where abouts are you from? Do you have celtic connections?

Merryn is a place name in cornwall and used independantly as a name ( not common but not rare)

janeite · 10/01/2009 21:48

Love Isobel but less sure about Merrin - so personally I'd switch them around.

LaDiDaDi · 10/01/2009 21:50

I like it.

Isobel is dd's middle name.

CharCharGabor · 10/01/2009 22:48

Ah right I thought Merrin was the place at my geographical knowledge Well that makes Merryn appeal more because it makes sense. And I thought I'd made a decision..

I like Isobel but prefer it as a middle name tbh, not sure why.

OP posts:
CharCharGabor · 10/01/2009 22:48

I do still like Merrin too. At least I've got plenty of time to decide!

Yeps its actually St Merryn......

Have a little google...not sure what the name means in cornish

CharCharGabor · 10/01/2009 22:57

I have googled and found the town, also that St Merryn was a Cornish saint iirc. Another site said that Merryn means 'joyful and lighthearted' and comes from the word Merry.

dizzydixies · 10/01/2009 22:58

I love the name Merrin

onadietcokebreak · 10/01/2009 23:10

joyful and lighthearted...thats a nice meaning.

However a google search of merrin also throws up an actress' name so dont let me put you off spelling it that way!

dizzydixies · 10/01/2009 23:13

its the name of the lead character in the programme Men in Trees too

Leo9 · 10/01/2009 23:16

oh what a lovely name! Merrin - Merry for short which is just so nice. Go for it!

I'm not sure about Isobel for a middle name - it's a nice name but I'm not sure they 'go'....maybe it's one of those names that just doesn't need anything else.

CharCharGabor · 10/01/2009 23:27

I'm still leaning towards Merrin tbh. It's really pretty and simple to me. I will keep Merryn in mind though

OP posts:
CharCharGabor · 10/01/2009 23:29

xpost, it is hard to think of something that goes with it, it does seem more like a stand alone name. I haven't seen that programme dizzy, is it good? Wouldn't want people to think I watch a crap programme

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 10/01/2009 23:32

its an american thing kind of like northern Exposure if you ever watched that?

NY author goes to Alaske to get over cheating fiance and ends up staying in small town and love story saga with local bloke - very easy watching but not complete crap

CharCharGabor · 10/01/2009 23:44

It does sound like something I would watch, I like programmes that are easy on the brain I might have a look for it.

OP posts:
dizzydixies · 10/01/2009 23:45

men in trees

littlelamb · 10/01/2009 23:47

I would use Merryn- I usd to work with a Merryn and I really like the name. Are you in the westcountry?

CharCharGabor · 10/01/2009 23:54

I'm not, no. I just heard the name and really liked it.

Thanks for the link dizzy. That explains why I haven't seen it, I've still only got analog tv.

I agree with leo9, like both names but not sure they go. LOVE Merrin or Marin but my cousin stole it before I could use it!

PavlovtheCat · 12/01/2009 00:01

I like it.
