Boys names - help!

Hello,
I have never posted on here before but have been reading over the name suggestions/advice for many months.

I am 24 weeks pregnant with my second, a little boy and I am having a hard time finding names that I actually like.

So far we have come up with Luca and that's it. We did like Charlie but then felt it was too popular as all of a sudden I started meeting many Charlies?!

We have considered
Jo/Joseph/Joby/Joel
Osian
Charlie
Ryder
Theo

All of these have now been dismissed by DH, all but maybe Jo and Luca.

Anyway, what do you think of Luca and do you have any name suggestions. Don't really like oldman names, and am looking for something that isn't too popular.

Thanks for any advice. x

I like Luca - Charlie is a great name but I do agree that it's too popular at the moment.

Jo is the female spelling - would have to be Joe - which I love and also really like Joel.

Osian I don't like - not even sure how to pronounce it but it looks odd.

Ryder is too American and too surnamey - I'm guessing you got it from Kate Hudson? I, personally, think it's best left in America.

Theo is a bit 'wet' in my opinion

Okay, I imagine you want honest opinions:
Luca (Looka): I really don't like it, just sounds flakey to me.
Joe (etc): solid nice name, quite popular. Would not spell it "Jo", that's a girl spelling.
Osian: He'll spend his life spelling it and pronouncing it correctly for people.
Charlie: okay, very popular
Ryder: er... rides what? motorbikes? Broncos?
Theo: has no appeal to me, but very popular, so people will generally accept it fine (and no trouble spelling it!).

Luke is good.
I know a baby Luca with a big brother called Theo!!

If you want names a bit like those, but not too popular, what about:
Brendon, Brett, Tristan, Nigel, Victor, Damian, Andreas, Dillon, David, Arno?

If you like solid but not old fogey names what about:

Matt
Jake
Ben
Will/William
Harry/Henry
Max
Guy
Miles

If you both like Luca - go for it, it's a great name. I doubt it's going to get really popular like Charlie either.

I think Joe is a bit boring.

Other names

Lorcan
Ashley
Hayden
Cian

No one ever calls their baby Mark any more, I always liked that.

What about Leo instead of Theo? It seems a bit more classic, it will date less. There are more Theos because it is definitely trendier.

I prefer the longevity of Leo. And it's not a nn, it IS just Leo in full.

I Like Lorcan and Cian too. Not at all keen on Ryder or Hayden.

Hi.
Thanks for all the suggestions.
Jo is a typo was meant to put Joe.

Osian is Welsh and we are Welsh so it wouldn't be so bad with spelling etc here but I guess anywhere else people wouldn't know how to say it.

I love the name Leo but we have a Leoni so that name is no good for a boy. All the other names are great but I don't feel excited about any boys name at the moment, is that normal or am I expecting too much from a name?

I love our Daughters name and have done from the moment I thought of it, no boys name has inspired me the same way.

Any other names would be great. Thanks for the help. x

Luca is nice. DS has a friend called LUca.
I like Joseph, or Joe for short.
Osian has a lovely sound to it. It's not a name that I have come across before, but I like it.
I'm not keen on Charlie or Theo really. I would have to go for the full Theodore anyway.
Ryder is not good for me. It sounds a bit too try-hard modern.

I like Luca and Theo.

xxhunnyxx · 10/01/2009 17:31

I like Theo

Thanks

I think there are just as many if not morw Joes as Charlies about. I love both names. Luca is a nice name too.

Lulubee · 11/01/2009 22:53

My DS is Luca. I get loads of positive reactions to it, which is nice for a boy's name. Worried that it seems to be gaining popularity though!
