What do people think?

Without reading anyone else's comments my gut reaction was - 'sounds made up and not very well made up'

Heated · 12/01/2009 21:54

Even though it isn't, it sounds like a fabricated name. Morwenna is much nicer. So is Rowena.

Northernlurker · 12/01/2009 22:01

I'm really sorry but it's just awful. Please don't do it!

PurplePillow · 12/01/2009 22:05

This is a really old cornish name and yes at first it may seem a bit strange to us in the rest of the country but, as I have found the more you hear it the nicer it sounds

Will also add that my dear friend is called this and totally suits her

OneLieIn · 12/01/2009 22:05

Sorry, it sounds like its from Jerry Springer

Northernlurker · 12/01/2009 22:06

The problem with thatpurplepillow is that most of us aren't in Cornwall - and to us it just sounds baaaaaaaaaad!

LiffeyMermaid · 12/01/2009 22:07

Even when you tell me it's cornish, i still think 'king of the hill'

PurplePillow · 12/01/2009 22:10

I know what you mean in a way Northernlurker but would you like to see a thread slagging your name off ( I certainly wouldn't) and there may be tons of Lowenna's on here reading this thread

cuppachar · 12/01/2009 22:14

I know someone called Luena (pronounced Loo-enn-er). It's Latin apparently, meaning warlike... I quite like it.

BoccaDellaVerita · 12/01/2009 22:17

purplepillow - Of course that's true. But people start these threads to ask opinions and opinions are what they receive. If anyone really loves the name they post about, I'm sure they'll use it anyway. But they do so knowing that a random collection of people think the name is lovely/boring/odd/too wacky or whatever. Surely it's better to know in advance what the reaction in RL to the name you've chosen is likely to be, even if you don't actually care?

PurplePillow · 12/01/2009 22:26

Yes I totally understand Bocca, just a bit surprised at the comments, I mean I haven't heard of the name very often but as I'm in Scotland we don't have cornish names around here much (if any), Hill billy?? why just because it's different.

Anyhoo just thought I would answer what I thought, not wanting to argue or anything, each to their own and all that

Northernlurker · 12/01/2009 22:30

PP - i think Lowenna will be perfectly happy - the op asked for views on Louenna - which is baaaaaaaaaaaad!

LiffeyMermaid · 12/01/2009 22:30

Yes I've seen my name and my children's names slagged off but I don't say anything, because 1) I can't control what strangers think of my name and shouldn't want to! 2) they're entitled to dislike my name; it's totally subjective anyway 3) I don't to reveal my name because people might then think, oh I can't slag off Liffey's name or she'll think I don't like her iyswim.

If you hate my name that's your perOG.

PurplePillow · 12/01/2009 22:31

Ahh but she said she had mis-spelt it

LiffeyMermaid · 12/01/2009 22:31

My name is Louenna-Mae

I don't know how old a Cornish name this is supposed to be-there isn't a single one in the 1881 census for Cornwall! There are 8 in USA, (Kentucky and Virginia) in 1880.
