A girl at dd's school has this name and I have never heard of it before.

Is it a proper name or made up?

I am not pg btw nor do I intend to be

Never heard of it.

To me it sounds alike a brand of china with a "Royal approval" stamp

Fimbo · 09/01/2009 11:32

LOL!

The name is spellt QUENBY and it is indeed a girls name:

The girl's name Quenby \qu(en)-by\ is of Old English origin, and its meaning is "queen's settlement".

Ooh I like it, and especially the old english link.

Fimbo · 09/01/2009 11:37

Well this wee soul has the "L' in it, dd had a christmas card from her and I checked to see the spelling.

so it's a place name, not a girl's name

It's a place in Leicestershire

PrimulaVeris · 09/01/2009 11:40

I like MrsB's idea that it's 2 halves of parents' names. You know, like giving your house a combined name from a couple's names ... actually didn't Peter Andre and Jordan do that? (The childs name I mean, not a house)

Fimbo · 09/01/2009 11:41

Yes Princess Taammii or however it is spelt is half his mother's name and half her mother's name.

Perhaps Quenbly's parents originated from Leicestershire then!

I know a little 3 year old QUENBY. I think Quenbly's parents added an unnessacary l...?

shoobidoo · 09/01/2009 11:47

sorry, unnecessary

Fimbo · 09/01/2009 11:49

It is looking like it Shoo, maybe they just wanted to be different.

She has a brother and I can't for the life of me remember his name, it's something I have heard of it but not a common name

I used to go to school with a QUENBY so she would be in her 30's now. I'd forgotton all about the name until this thread, I actually quite like it.

EachPeachPearMum · 09/01/2009 11:51

Makes me think of Giles Quenbly Hogg

othersideofchannel · 09/01/2009 12:04

Quenby is actually a lovely girls name. Will add it to my list.
