Where is Ketty from and what do you think?

I saw this (yes same book as my other thread) and really like it.
A bit like Kitty which we're also considering. Is this short for anything or can it be used on its own?
Has anybody heard of it before?

You will get lots of post addressed to Betty. Don't do it.

HelenBurns · 09/01/2009 06:37

It's short for kettle but not sure if that helps

It's quite nice in a way.

HelenBurns · 09/01/2009 06:38

No i do like it actually.

I can't think of a longer form though.

2pt4kids · 09/01/2009 07:23

Kitty much nicer and not so
Everyone will think she is called Katie with a northern accent if you call her Ketty

moonincancer · 09/01/2009 12:14

kettys nice...better than kitty. maybe made up. who cares? i like it

TsarChasm · 09/01/2009 12:20

People will keep trying to change it to Kitty. Annoying, but they will and you (and dd when she's older) will have to keep explaining and correcting it.

SAEJ · 09/01/2009 13:02

Not keen. Makes me think of that Ketamine thread all over again.

BlueChampagne · 09/01/2009 13:33

Not keen either - how about Kerry? Twentypence is right - she'll be called Betty or Katie or Kitty and have to spell it every time on the phone. Probably more than once.

seeker · 09/01/2009 13:36

Sounds like katy with a new Zealand accent!

Prefer Hetty to Ketty ,which sounds totally made up lol

twentypence · 10/01/2009 05:46

Why would anyone call a kid "kettle"?

"Hi my names Iro - short for iron"

"The names Py - short for pyrex"

seeker · 10/01/2009 06:27

Do you think sometimes people overhear a child being called by a nickname and think "Oh, that's a nice name" not realizing that it's not a name at all? My children call each other Matmic and Dace - I do hope no one ever decides to use either of them as proper names!

kittywise · 10/01/2009 06:59

I've got a kitty, ketty is silly, sounds completely made up.

WorzselMummage · 10/01/2009 09:22

Ketty is what we'd call someone who had been snorting ketamine.

Not a nice name.

xxhunnyxx · 10/01/2009 11:45

It reminds me of Ketamine. Personally I wouldn't like my child to be named after a class A drug.

silverfairy · 10/01/2009 15:48

Sounds like it is short for Kettle

cory · 12/01/2009 23:33

There's a Ketty in The Three Musqueteers.
