Tess?

Is it a 'real' name or just a shortened version of Theresa.

What do you think?

I like short names that can't be mis-spelled. All my life I've had to spell mine out and put up with it being mis-spelled.

I think it's borderline but fine - maybe Tessa is more of a real name (and equally easy to spell), plus avoids the d'Urberville connotations which people will probably bring up. Pretty

LadyOfWaffle · 04/01/2009 02:10

Tess ia nice. Theresa is on my list Not sure I like Tessa... Sounds /looks like a brand name of something in Lidl! Tess Daly is obviously just a Tess (I think).

fanniiminogue · 04/01/2009 02:28

sorry sorry sorry for any offence but...... two ton tess!

RunningGirl · 04/01/2009 10:21

I think it's lovely. Simple but pretty. Much nicer than Tessa in my opinion!

ABloke · 04/01/2009 10:22

Yes what running girl said. Lovely. Simple. Pretty.

piscesmoon · 04/01/2009 10:24

I see someone has already put 'two ton Tess'-I must admit that it was my first thought! Don't do it if you are not a slim family.

Aitch · 04/01/2009 10:26

tess is nice but like the others say, do not touch with a bargepole unless you're a very slim family.

LiffeyAnnaLivia · 04/01/2009 10:28

I don't like it.

chequersandroastedchestnuts · 04/01/2009 10:33

I knew a Tess, really suited her.

I like it, wouldn't think of ten ton tess either.

piscesmoon · 04/01/2009 10:59

Those of you who don't think 'two ton Tess' should be aware that a lot of people do! No problem if the DC is slim.

MrsMattie · 04/01/2009 11:00

I like it, and I like Tessa (not Theresa, though).

Leo9 · 04/01/2009 11:03

Tess is a lovely name.

Two ton tess would not have crossed my mind at all. Some people don't think in cliches thank goodness so I wouldn't be put off using it just because some people have that sort of frame of reference!

piscesmoon · 04/01/2009 12:00

I quite like it but it would completely put me off, I wouldn't want to set up a child for teasing.

audley · 04/01/2009 14:45

Love it

kwaker5 · 06/01/2009 08:56

troutpout · 06/01/2009 08:58

lovely name... rare too i think.my friends little girl is the only one i know

Jenbot · 06/01/2009 09:34

I've never heard of 2 ton tess either.

My last dog was called Tess, but I still like the name for humans!

KatB · 06/01/2009 11:29

I like it, reminds me more of the lovely nurse in Casualty than two ton Tess.

teafortwo · 06/01/2009 11:40

I don't care if it is a real name or not - I love it, love it, love it.... please go for it - I beg you!!!!

I once taught a deliciously dreamy little boy called Jude - I think this is a beautiful name too.

Tess and Jude are two Hardy characters that were born too early. If they were born with their ideas on life today - they would thrive and be very very successful! Infact I am close to saying I wish now I'd thought of such a good name instead of the daft one we called dd - my dd would have made a good Tess!!!

noonki · 09/01/2009 18:51

lovely

Two ton eh?

never heard that expression before

piscesmoon · 09/01/2009 19:08

Try googling 'two ton Tess',if you haven't heard of it. Not a wise move if you are likely to have an overweight child, but not a problem otherwise.

belgo · 09/01/2009 19:10

I really like Tess. Theresa is fine. I've never heard of two ton Tess, I wouldn't worry about that.
