What do you think of Obi for a boy?

OP posts:
Are your children’s vaccines up to date?
Tortington · 02/01/2009 17:03

only if its a cultural thing i am not understanding - ir if his surname is wankanobe

BabyBaby123 · 02/01/2009 17:04

aGalChangedHerName · 02/01/2009 17:04

lol... gosh not sure what to say to that tbh....

muggglewump · 02/01/2009 17:07

Wan Kenobi? (or however you spell it)

MusntGrumble · 02/01/2009 17:07

Aside from the Star Wars thing (which for me would be reason enough not to go for it) it is the name of the "B&Q" of Germany so makes me

whitenoise · 02/01/2009 17:08

you are either a star wars or hollyoaks fan

also a style of japanese belt

i thikn people will presume it is short for something else

muggglewump · 02/01/2009 17:11

Well I think it's fine. If DD had been a boy she'd have been Darthv (my surname is Ader)
I think it's a classic in the making

SwedesInACape · 02/01/2009 17:11

Love it I do.

AndATigerschickInAPearTree · 02/01/2009 17:12

Isn't it the name of the ornamental belts that go 'round kimono?

Not sure about it for a name.
Sorry.

nkf · 02/01/2009 17:13

I was going to post the Star Wars reference but someone beat me to it?

BabyBaby123 · 02/01/2009 17:13

i don't know anything about star wars

it sounds like an African name to me. It's quite nice but would be odd if there is no cultural connection imo

BabyBaby123 · 02/01/2009 17:15

just looked it up and it is West African, Nigerian to be precise

AndATigerschickInAPearTree · 02/01/2009 17:16

BabyBaby, you're right it's Nigerian.
If there is a cultural link then, go for it. If not, then I stand by my previous post.

AndATigerschickInAPearTree · 02/01/2009 17:16

nkf · 02/01/2009 17:17

I knew it was a Nigerian name but somehow I assumed the OP didn't and had just happened on it.

Love it I do.

I'm dribbling piss here!! LMAO!

MrsNewYear · 02/01/2009 17:21

It's also a town in France. There was a boy at my nursery called Obi (because of the French connection!) and it was a bit strange for five seconds, but it's certainly not the weirdest name I've come across!!!

noonki · 02/01/2009 17:33

weird connections aside it is a very lovely name

bluebump · 02/01/2009 17:34

I actually know a child called Obi, and he was named after the Star Wars character.

FairLadyRantALot · 02/01/2009 17:34

hm...automatically thought of Star wars, too...

or there is a furniture/DIY shop in my Hometown called Obi...hm....

if it is the Star wars thing...I personally would say Annekin (sp?) is nicer

Wilts · 02/01/2009 17:37

There is a girl at my son's school called Obi.
