What happens after 6 weeks with no name?

Just thinking. I know the time can be extended but what if when it really came to the crunch we couldn't agree on a name. Would the government issue a fine or are we assigned a name from a list - cos now I'm thinking we'll take our chances with option 2 and see what name we're given!

me and my hubbie had this argument so we came up with a name that haddent being said before she was born and it was fearne which was actually a name my sister had for my niece 14 years ago .

pinsanon · 02/01/2009 10:52

Middle name has been spoken for (MIL, dec'd), I don't think baby knows much about not having a name and it'll be a story for her to tell when us parents are wrinklies.

Your wife likes Emily doesn't she?? That is a perfectly lovely name, the only thing wrong with it at all, is that it's been at number one or in the top five for a few years. But now that SO many more names are used, it still means that a name at number one belongs to less than 1% of the babies born that year.

So, you go to the park and there are a hundred girls there born in 2008. Maybe one or two are called Emily.

Tbh I went all out of my way to pick an unusual name for my dc1 and now she wants nothing more than a cup of a pen with her name on it.

In 1975 or thereabouts, the number one name in America was Jennifer, and 5% of the girls born in that year bore that name.

Ella and Emma were your wife's other names weren't they?

What about Estella or Gabriella Suzanne. ?

Where's your wife? Is she really just sticking to her short list of three, not budging???? She's just waiting for you to give in!!

aidansyummymummy · 02/01/2009 12:05

accept the fact its going to be Emily Suzanne...your wife fave name....and I must say what a lovely name. Agree with Liffy about cup/pen..I cant find Aidan anywhere!

LiffeySaysHappyNewYear · 02/01/2009 12:12

Where are you Aidan's mummy! You must be in England! I'll post you some thing if you like!

LiffeySaysHappyNewYear · 02/01/2009 12:16

ha ha I agree with heated, let ILoveBrucie choose! Oh go on

Xavielli · 02/01/2009 12:21

After 6 weeks all babies are named "Bob" by default...

aidansyummymummy · 02/01/2009 12:22

Thanks liffey thats very kind but its just me noticing that theres nothing around yet for my DS! However my wonderful cousin did find a keyring that is proudly attached to his changing bag!

Im in cornwall but cant find anything....not thats hes at the age where he cares....DS is 15mths...but I nose at every display! But my parents spelt my name differently..Tania so must be a throw back behaviour to me looking as a child in the shops for my name!!!

pulapula · 02/01/2009 13:04

I've seen you like Harriet and your wife likes names ending in the "ee" sound, so why not Harriet/Hattie?

Otherwise, I think you should either let your wife name this DD (and you can have first choice if you have any more children) or else put your favourite names in a hat and pick one out...

My DCs have always been named within 5 mins of birth and with DD we had to compromise on a name we both liked which wasn't either of our favourites. With DS we only had one boys name really so that was easier. Need to start thinking of a name for the next one soon...

BabyBaby123 · 02/01/2009 15:25

can't you give your dd two middle names - one Suzanne and one that you chose?

Sorry but it sounds like you are being really stubborn - surely your dw should get the deciding vote??
if my dp were being like that I would be tempted to go and register the baby on my own tbh!

onebatmotherofgoditschilly · 02/01/2009 15:32

we had to get an extension.. then chose a name that wasn't on the list and had never been mentioned by either of us before

pinsanon · 02/01/2009 16:02

Wife chose our son's name - it didn't seem to be as big a deal as with our daughter. He ended up being Sam(uel) Leonard (middle name from my grandfather). It was a name that offers him different variations as he grows up. Sam, Sammy, Samuel etc.

Harriet is probably our joint favourite but I/we can't help feel we've missed the name that's right for the poor un-named little lady!

Harry and Sam.. could be two boys, two girls or a boy and a girl.

Flightattendant7 · 02/01/2009 18:45

I think you need something foreign.

Maybe the \French version of one of the names, or somehting.

Suzanne means 'Lily'

Sounds like she likes very normal, heard-of names

does she like any actresses? Old films?

Flightattendant7 · 02/01/2009 18:46

Etienne?

Eve?

Esther?

Flightattendant7 · 02/01/2009 18:47

Yvette

Margaret

Spink · 02/01/2009 19:07

Harriet is lovely. Go with that. we're about to have a baby, kind of gone off the boil when it comes to name excitement, so nothing is really WOW. We have a boy and girl shortlist and neither of us really LOVES the names but reckon that is because we've been thinking about it too long rather than because we've missed 'the name' iykwim

NorktasticNinja · 02/01/2009 19:32

Blimey, you're really having trouble with this aren't you pinsanon!

No name is ever going to totally sum up someone that you love with heart and soul and have already known for three weeks, however hard you try. I suspect that it will only get more difficult the longer you wait.

Go with Harriet, it's a lovely name. You could at least try it out for a few days... How about Harriet Violet Suzanne or Harriet Suzanne Rose ? Would that work with her surname? They seems to flow better than just Harriet Suzanne (to me).

Samuel and Harriet is a lovely combo, as is Sam and Hattie/Hetty

NorktasticNinja · 02/01/2009 19:33

Seems

Flightattendant7 · 03/01/2009 04:21

Harriet is very nice.

Or Hermione!
