MOG - what do you think?

If DC2 is a girl we've chosen a name and my mum has just pointed out that her initials will be MOG. Does anyone think this is a problem - potential for nicknames at school, etc?? I don't think its bad - there are many worse initials it could have - DP's parents are SAG and GAG for instance!

What does anyone think? I hadn't really thought about it until my mother pointed it out!

I thought you were going to call her Mog as a name! I don't think the intials are too bad actually - my married initals sound like something you'd say when you saw a mouse in the kitchen and it's never caused me any distress!

AttillaTheHan · 30/12/2008 12:01

I wouldn't worry about it personally. Its not an obvious one IYSWIM.
When I read title I thought you wanted t call your child Mog! I was about to come on yelling Noooooooooooooo

Lukawhosbringingmyrrh · 30/12/2008 12:01

I thought you mean't naming her Mog. I was going to say it's lovely! I know one and, granted, when I first heard it I laughed but I love it now!
Initials should be fine.

tribpot · 30/12/2008 12:05

God, I thought you meant Mog as a name too! As a set of initials - fine.

iwouldgoouttonight · 30/12/2008 12:09

ROFL at calling her Mog! Glad nobody thinks the initials would be a problem - my mum just made me worry about it - and then got me thinking about if she got married to someone whose surname began with O and she would become MOO! I wish this baby would just come out now - I obviously have too much time on my hands!!

Well, she might double-barrel and become MOGO. Or MOOG.

one of my best friends at school had the nickname Mog. I still call her that to this day and can't think of her as anything else. It hasn;t harmed her.

I don't think you can avoid/alleviate teasing by trying to eradicate every possible source of it, iyswim. It's a virtually inevitable part of childhood and the important thing is to give your child strategies to cope with it, while doing your bit to teach them the line between gentle fun and banter and unpleasant teasing in their own behaviour.

Luka - you know a Mog?????

delightedoldbag34 · 30/12/2008 12:33

I know a BOG and a FOG (married couple). Quite funny, that's what we call them (not to their faces though obviously )
I don't think MOG is a problem at all. Go for it!

moonincancer · 30/12/2008 21:45

i know brothers SAP and a GAP!

you could even call her Mog for short, its a lovely pet name (chortle)

nula · 30/12/2008 22:32

It is a fab nickname

frankbestfriend · 30/12/2008 22:34

Don't worry if you like the names.

Dd is FEK, fortunately she is too young to make the Father Ted association just yet

BoccaDellaVerita · 30/12/2008 22:35

I don't think it's a problem.
